Go ahead, try to take them down. Mission-Charlo wrestlers are made of solid rock and will definitely give anyone a run for their money when it comes to the mat.
Led by seniors Jacen Peterson and Trent Dennison, Bulldog wrestling has put up quite a few records, including an undefeated season held by Peterson.
Coach Lyle Cronk couldn’t say enough about his seniors. “I have had the most appreciation for the two seniors that have stepped up,” he said. “It’s like having another set of coaches. They keep the other wrestlers focused and lead by example. They show determination and great work ethics.”
Cronk feels the team, a co-op between Mission and Charlo schools, has a great shot at divisionals, especially after dominating their own hosted tourney this past weekend. Six Bulldog wrestlers boasted undefeated wins: Danny Helmer, Morgan Shultz, Gregory Weatherwax, Jay Wadsworth, Trent Dennison and Jacen Peterson all walked away undefeated, earning t-shirts for their accomplishments.
“I’m really excited for the team for divisionals,” Cronk said. “Jacen took state last year and I’d like to see him do it again as well as see some of the others do well. They’re all great wrestlers and coming along.”
Accumulative season points will be the decider in who gets to compete in the post season. Bulldogs grabbed second as a team last season with several wrestlers placing in the top four.
Before taking to the divisional mats, hosted by Ronan on Jan. 8, Bulldog wrestling will compete in two more meets on the road: Thompson Falls Jan. 30 and Florence Feb. 1.
