Authorities responded to a rash of burglaries and attempted burglaries in the early morning hours of Jan. 21.
Would-be thieves used a sledgehammer in an attempt to break the door to Ronan Sports and Western at approximately 4:30 a.m. Store management said the shatter-proof glass door was cracked, but did not break. A little more than an hour later a car stolen from the Ronan airport was driven through the front door of Westland Seed. In eight minutes, a thief stole 8-10 guns, including a .50 caliber high-powered rifle. The perpetrator was caught on video, but was covered up and not easily identifiable, according to Westland Seed CEO and President David Sagmiller. It is believed the thief had an accomplice that drove a getaway car, because the stolen airport car was left running and in gear at the scene of the crime.
That same morning Polson Police responded to a burglary alarm at 5:14 a.m. Officers arrived within four minutes and found nothing was missing, according to a press release by the Lake County Sheriff's office. No suspects were apprehended.
All cases currently remain under investigation. Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Ronan Police Department and the Polson Police Department are seeking any information that could lead to the recovery of the stolen property and arrest of those involved. Please contact Lake County Crime Stoppers at (406) 883-7309 with any information – callers may choose to remain completely anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
