News from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Division of Fire and Wildland Recreation Program
ST. IGNATIUS — Tribal Wildland Recreation Program and Tribal Division of Fire announce the closure of the Mission Falls Trail at the trailhead due to the Mission Falls Fire. The lightning caused fire was spotted at the top of a mostly rocky cliff/chute directly under the Lucifer Lake trail. Suppression resources assigned to this fire have pulled off the fire lines due to safety considerations that could not be mitigated. This suppression fire will be monitored and suppression action taken when safe to do so.
Due to anticipated fire spread and increased fire behavior, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Division of Fire and Tribal Wildland Recreation Program have closed the trail until further notice.
Fire danger is extreme within the boundaries of the Flathead Indian Reservation.
While recreating on Tribal lands all forest users are asked to be extra careful.
Be sure to fully extinguish any campfire or cooking fire.
1) Never leave a campfire unattended, and be sure it is “dead out” before leaving the area.
2) Have a bucket and shovel handy when having a campfire.
3) Cigarette smokers need to smoke in an area clear of vegetation and pack out their cigarette butts.
