ST. IGNATIUS — Council members had much to discuss during the April 2 meeting in St. Ignatius.

St. Ignatius police chief Frank Aaron left his position and moved to West Yellowstone. His last day was March 29 and the town is now advertising for a police chief. Jeffrey Ferguson, Mission’s newly-hired policeman, is set to attend training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy from April 7 through June 28. He plans to come back to Mission and patrol on some weekends.

Public works director Scott Morton was pleased to announce the city had successfully installed automatic chlorinated testing equipment in pump 2 of the town’s water project. Officials hope to have the second ACTE installed in pump 1 in the coming weeks.

“Just a couple more things and we’re good to go; we’re done,” Morton said during the meeting.

In addition, phase 2 of the town’s water improvement project, which includes construction of a new city well, pump, pump housing and replacing several water mains around town, will go out to bid sometime in early summer. The project has a three-month construction timeframe. City officials hope the second project will be completed in 2013.

The council also wished to remind St. Ignatius residents that dog tags expired March 31 and should be renewed this month.

“St. Ignatius ordinances require that all dogs and cats kept in the town of St. Ignatius shall be registered as to sex, breed, name of dog or cat and name and address of the owner,” a statement from the city read. “All dogs and cats must have proof of a current rabies vaccination as a prerequisite to licensure.”

Tags cost $5 for every spayed or neutered cat and dog and $10 for every unaltered cat and dog. Tags can be purchased or renewed at St. Ignatius City Hall or at Dr. Castor’s veterinary clinic south of the St. Ignatius post office.
