The Polson Lady Pirate hoopsters were handed their first loss of the season last week, falling to 3-1 against the Frenchtown Lady Broncs in a Northwest A game on the road. The Polson girls’ team continues to be led by senior standout Riley Kenney, who has scored in the double digits every game this season, scoring 14 in this week’s loss.

The Lady Pirates hung in with Frenchtown from the tip all the way to the end. Polson led 11-10 after the first quarter, but was outscored 13-10 in the second quarter to give the Lady Broncs a 23-21 advantage going into the half.

Polson struggled offensively in the third quarter, only putting up five points, but the Lady Pirates were able to hold Frenchtown to only six points.

The Lady Broncs edged out Polson late in the fourth, winning 40-35.

Kenney led the way for Polson, scoring a team-high 14 points, and also completed seven of her eight free throws. Teammate Mackenzie Banner followed closely behind with 12 points, while Mariah Hamel added five.

The Lady Pirates continue their season following the holiday break on Jan. 6 against Loyola at home.
