MISSOULA — On Oct. 5 in Missoula, 10 youths from Lake County placed in the top three of their age groups when they joined 84 boys and girls ages 6-15 who participated at the Western Montana Sectional competition of the NFL Punt Pass & Kick program.
Elizabeth Bluemel, 13, of Ronan, set an age group record in the punting event with her mark of 116 feet, 4 inches, besting the previous state mark by more than 12 feet. Her effort also carried her to the age group title.
All age group first-place finishers are now eligible to compete in the Seattle Seahawks regional competition, but must await the results of all other sectionals, approximately twelve, conducted this month throughout the Pacific Northwest. Only the top four sectional winners advance to the Seattle event, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28, prior to the Seahawks vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers game on Sunday, Nov. 29.
