POLSON — The 20th annual Skate Jam at Polson’s Seventh Avenue Skatepark celebrated local skaters’ skills and offered plenty of fun for spectators and participants, with about 25 or 30 people showing off their moves during the event.
“Everybody had a good time,” organizer Jesse Vargas said.
Prizes were a range of skate gear and apparel donated by Edge of the World skate shop in Missoula.
“(Edge of the World owner) Chris Bacon is always very supportive,” Vargas noted.
This year’s jam also drew attention to a project recently approved by the city council to expand the skatepark. The expansion will double the size of the park for a total of 12,900 square feet, adding a variety of street obstacles such as boxes, ledges and rails.
“The main point is to give everybody a park where they can progress,” explained Vargas, who’s also head of the expansion committee.
If all goes according to plan, fundraising will begin in the next few weeks, and construction will start in fall 2016.
