NOXON – Mission-Charlo’s wrestling team went big right before the break, though they were missing two key seniors.
Seniors Jacen Peterson and Morgan Schultz traveled to Couer D’ Alene, Idaho to compete in the “prestigious” Tri-State Wrestling Tournament, “a first for wrestlers from Mission-Charlo in more than a decade,” according to Coach Lyle Cronk. While filling 64-man brackets in each weight class, the tournament played host to teams from Western Montana, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Mission Charlo’s Morgan Schultz went 2-2 and came away with a victory in the consolation bracket. Jacen Peterson finished 5-5 with four pins and was awarded the “Outstanding Wrestler” award.
While Peterson and Schultz were away, their team still fared well Dec. 19 in Noxon for the Mission/Charlo wrestling team as they dominated, winning 15 out of 19 matches against teams from Noxon and Thompson Falls.
Freshman Trent Denison won all three of his matches in the 145-weight division, two by pin and one in a 8-0 decision. Gregory Weatherwax, 126, took home three wins by decision, 8-6, 11-1, and 14-3. Competing at 160, Manual Ammann won two by pins. Ethan Goss and Steven Bravo each grabbed a win at 195. Kyle Couture came in at 2-1 in the 152 weight class. Jay Wadsworth also pulled a 2-1 for the day at 132. Tyler Spidel, 282, was 1-1.
On Saturday, Dec. 21, Mission-Charlo traveled to the Corvallis Invite where they placed fourth as a team.
Trent Denison (152) and Steven Bravo (182) each grabbed a second place spot in their weights. Tyler Spidel (285) placed third and Danny Helmer (113), Jamie Mullins (126) and Ethan Goss (195) each took a fourth place finish.
