POLSON – Two public hearings were scheduled before the Polson City Commission meeting on Monday, Aug. 16.
The first hearing to discuss the city’s fiscal year 2010-11 preliminary budget and notice of an increase in permissive medical mills began at 6 p.m.
Much of the discussion centered on the city’s insurance plan for its employees, changing insurance companies and employee salaries.
The public hearing was continued until Aug. 25 at 6 p.m.
A hearing on extending the moratorium on medical marijuana restrictions drew no public comments.
During the regular meeting, City Manager Todd Crossett thanked Polson City Clerk Aggi Loesser, who worked for the city for just shy of 21 years.
Mayor Pat DeVries agreed and said, “We’ll sincerely miss you, Aggi.”
In other business, the commissioners unanimously passed the first reading of Ordinance #658, to renew the interim medical marijuana zoning Ordinance #654 for another six months. Commissioners discussed the fact that the ordinance can be renewed another time so they can see what changes the Montana legislature will make at the state level.
The commissioners also approved Resolution #1013 to award the $750,000 Streetscape bond sale to Glacier Bank for 3.95 percent interest.
Resolution #1014 to levy assessment upon the Special Improvement District #42, also for Streetscape, passed unanimously.
A notice of hearing on objections to levy assessment not the creating on of levy was scheduled for Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. The assessment is $24.91 per lineal foot per year, according to County Treasurer Bonnie Manicke.
Resolution #1011, reauthorizing the Lake County Joint Airport Board to add a representative from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, was approved.
The next regularly scheduled city commission meeting will be held on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in city commission chambers.
