RONAN – The boys’ and girls’ locker rooms in Ronan High School will be getting a much-needed face lift this summer. RSD trustees approved to hire Architects Northwest out of Kalispell to renovate the high school locker rooms. When the district reissued their bonds back in 2001, they agreed to renovate the locker rooms, along with the middle school and performing arts center construction.

No official plans have been made available, but Architects Northwest gave RSD a preliminary estimate for the total project to cost between $600,000 to $650,000. The district has given an “ok” for the project to go to a maximum cost of $700,000. The project will be funded through the district’s 226 Impact Aid fund.

The district will be utilizing Ted Clarke, who helped with the construction of the Performing Arts Center. By hiring Clarke, the district will save money on the project, because they won’t have to shop out for another mechanical and electrical engineer.

Holmlund recommended Architects Northwest because he’s been pleased with the work the company has provided for RSD in previous projects.

“They have good service, reliability and work well with schools,” Holmlund said. “I recommend them for continued work.”

The goal for the project is to roll dirt in June 2012 and have the restoration complete before school begins in August.

“It’s a fast and furious construction,” Holmlund said.

In other business, Pablo Elementary School Principal Frank Ciez announced his school had a successful food drive for the “Together we can bag hunger” event. Students collected 998 pounds of food worth $1,996, which was donated to the Bread Basket in Ronan.

In Holmlund’s report, the high school budget is running above average, sitting at around $3,000,000 in the Impact Aid fund. Holmlund added that interactive promethean boards are now installed in classrooms and have been well-received by teachers and students already.

“The boards have been great for student interaction in the classroom,” Holmlund said.

In new business, trustees hired a list of personnel along with extra-curricular hires for the 2011-12 fiscal year.

The next school board meeting will be held in the high school library on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
