Book program rolls on after vandals slash tires
ST. IGNATIUS — Vandals complicated the last weeks of the St. Ignatius Library’s summer reading program.
Three tires on the library’s Book Van were slashed, during town librarian Daniel Thompson’s vacation. The library is operated by St. Ignatius school district in the daytime and the Town of St. Ignatius in the evening. The van is owned by the town’s part of the library and delivers books to children in St. Ignatius during the summer months.
“It helps them stay caught up on their reading,” Thompson said.
He did not know exactly what date the vandalism occurred, but said that the vandals were caught in the act by someone in the St. Ignatius school superintendent’s office. Thompson was not sure the vandals would face criminal charges for the crime. It cost $300 to replace the tires, according to Thompson.
After the incident high school librarian Lisa Foust used her personal vehicle to deliver books to the three to four dozen children who were enrolled in the program, Thompson said.
“It kind of slowed up the last two weeks, but Lisa ended up getting the books to the kids,” Thompson said.
