ST. IGNATIUS — Council members had much to discuss during last week’s city council meeting in St. Ignatius.

Mayor Charlie Gariepy appointed Jeffrey Ferguson to the St. Ignatius Police Department, filling a position that had been empty since last fall. In addition, St. Ignatius animal control officer Susan Dodson was given permission to apply for a $20,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The funds will go toward Dodson’s completion of the National Animal Control Academy and the anti-cruelty investigation training.

The grant will pay for all of Dodson’s training.

In addition, St. Ignatius is moving forward with the second part of the town’s water improvement project, which includes new pump house, new city well and replacement water lines on Mountain View Road and Home Addition Road, as well as some repairs on Arrow Street.

Morton said the project will go out for bid sometime around April 20 and should start around May with an August completion date.

“Everything is moving forward at a good pace, and all the agencies are on board,” Morton said. “We’re working with them well; it’s good right now. It’s progressing at a pretty good clip.”
