News from the office of Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen

HELENA — Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen says more than 100 candidates filed for office on the opening day of the 2024 Montana candidate filing period.

“Congratulations to each of the candidates who filed on the opening day and thank you for volunteering your service to represent your community,” said Secretary Jacobsen. “It’s an honor and a privilege to serve as an elected official, and we’re happy to have assisted these new candidates with this important first step.”

Thursday’s opening day had 108 total candidate filings processed as of 4:30 p.m. Twenty-six candidates visited the Secretary of State’s Office to file in person. Senator Becky Beard was the first candidate to file on Thursday morning, followed by former PSC Commissioner Brad Johnson who filed his paperwork to run for U.S. Senate.

The latest results for candidates filing with the Secretary of State’s Office can be found on the 2024 Candidate Filings website. Local candidates file with the county election office.
