News from the office of Senator Daines
U.S. SENATE — The U.S. Department of Education has denied Montana’s request to use local assessments to replace federally mandated statewide tests. This follows a direct request from Senator Daines to Secretary Cardona to support Montana’s petition. Senator Daines believes that education should not be dictated by top-down mandates, rather that local leaders and parents know what’s best and should have the power to make decisions for their students. The Senator released the below statement following this announcement.
“I’m disappointed to see the Department of Education deny Montana’s request for a national assessment waiver. In a year full of unprecedented challenges, this flexibility would have empowered Montana teachers and educators and helped Montana students stay on track. I will continue to work with Montana Superintendent Arntzen to ensure that Montana students receive the best education possible,” Senator Daines said.
