News from The Mission Valley Food Pantry
ST. IGNATIUS – The Mission Valley Food Pantry recently added a new storage room to the Blaine Street location.
“We were so cramped that it was hard to organize various foods,” said Director Heidi Riddle. “It was also hard to make sure that the oldest food went out first because that required moving cases of food around all the time.”
Various people in the community got together to help make the project possible. First, a truck was donated to the pantry and raffled off. People in the community stepped up to buy tickets. The drawing for the truck was on Dec. 17 and the winner was Matt Whetzell.
After winning, Whetzell donated his time and the concrete to finish the floor for the storage room. Gambles Hardware and Discount Carpets provided materials at a discount. Various other volunteers worked for 12 days to finish the room.
“The room looks great,” Riddle said. “We are very grateful that (the volunteers) were willing to tackle the project.”
