RONAN – A Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a fatal crash on Saturday, June 2, at approximately 5 a.m. while in route to an emergency.
Montana Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and reported that the Jeep Wrangler involved in the incident was driven by a 17-year-old female from Charlo. The Jeep was south bound when it pulled over to the right shoulder. The driver decided to take a U-turn at the last minute and pulled out in front of the deputy. The driver and the 17-year-old passenger were not wearing seatbelts, and the collision caused them to be ejected from the vehicle. The driver died at the scene of the accident.
The deputy was driving south bound towards an incident in St. Ignatius on U.S. Highway 93 near Timberlane Road when the crash occurred. Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said the incident resulted in a fatal injury to one of two occupants of the Jeep. The second occupant was transported to a local hospital and was in stable condition. The deputy was injured and transported to the hospital and later released.
