Mission Valley grapplers earn state wrestling spots

SUPERIOR – Arlee and Mission/Charlo combined to earn twelve berths into the state wrestling tournament during the Western B/C divisional competition over the weekend in Superior.
Only the top four individuals in each weight class were able to advance to the state tournament in Billings on Friday and Saturday.
In the team standings, Mission/Charlo finished fourth with 134 points and Arlee finished seventh with 59 points.
Mission/Charlo will be represented at the state tournament by second place finishers Walker Murphy (113), Bailey Weible (126), Darwin Adams (138) and Chris Anderson (285).
Also competing at the state tourney for Mission/Charlo will be Cole Gilleard (132), Isaiah Alik (160) and Lucas Wohltmann (205), who all finished third, and then fourth place finishers were Miles Anderson (170) and Gus Bosley (182).
Arlee will have a trio of athletes who will represent their school at the state tourney, second place finisher Jace Samsel (103) and third place finishers Skyler Titsworth (152) and George Shick (182).
During the Western A divisional wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday in Columbia Falls, the Polson Pirates finished third in the team standings with 211.5 points and the Ronan Chiefs scored a fourth place with 187 points.
With the top eight individuals qualifing for the state tournament, both Polson and Ronan qualified twelve wrestlers for next week’s tourney.
The Pirates had four wrestlers make it to the divisional finals. Bridger Wenzel (132), Cameron Brown (145) and Parker Adler (152) all won divisional titles, while Hunter Fritsch (170) placed second.
“We felt that our team had a very good tournament,” Polson head wrestling coach Bob Owen said. “We were hoping to advance at least ten wrestlers to the state tournament next week, so qualifying 12 was a bonus. Our three champions had outstanding performances throughout the tournament and set the table pretty nicely for themselves on the state brackets this week.”
Maysn Cowell (103), Mateo Quinones (113) and Jarod Farrier (138) all placed third for the Pirates, while teammates Rene Pierre (113) placed fourth, Noah Humphrey (182) placed fifth, Kedrick Baker (120) and Jasper Drake (205) each grabbed a seventh-place finish and Kaleb Unger (145) rounded out the group with an eighth-place finish.
For the Chiefs, Trapper McAllister (103), Hunter Peterson (138) and Justin Mays (182) finished second.
“I think that we wrestled tough and we qualified 12 of the 15 wrestlers to the state tournament,” Ronan head coach Dylan Kramer said. “For the most part, our wrestlers did what was expected of them and they competed at a high level. We were able to set ourselves up for success at the state tournament.”
Three more Chiefs, Spencer Stagg (120), Owen Brown (126) and Dan Cheff III (160), all earned third place. Seth Cheff (152) and Wesley Pablo (205) placed fourth, Zane Walchuk (120) and Sam Mocabee (285) finished fifth, Daniel Collins Bishop (160) placed seventh and Trevor Bartel (103) nabbed eighth place for the Chiefs.
