Morin excited to be back with Toys for Tots

POLSON — Mauri Morin is back for another bite at the apple, the Toys for Tots apple, that is.
Morin, 83, began working with the local Marine Corps League’s Hellroaring Detachment in the Toys for Tots program in 2002, he said.
He was called back to duty this year as project coordinator for the program when last year’s coordinator, Franz McLaren, took a job in California.
“It’s good to be back,” Morin said. “It’s a very rewarding program. I love to see the kids get toys and their reaction.”
Toys for Tots tries to make sure each child in need gets two toys and a stocking stuffer. The toys will be distributed in mid-December through Friday, Dec. 22, Morin said. A dozen or so retired Marines will assist some 40 or so Share the Spirit volunteers in distributing the gifts.
Toy collection boxes will be placed in businesses from Big Arm and Woods Bay to St. Ignatius this week, Morin said. (See list of drop-off locations below). New toys that are not wrapped will be accepted.
Monetary donations for the program will be accepted during a roadside collection from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 on U.S. Highway 93 in downtown Polson.
A gift-wrap fundraiser will be held at Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply in Polson on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2-3. Patrons can purchase children’s gifts at Murdoch’s and have them wrapped for a fee, Morin said. The fee is a donation for the Toys for Tots program.
Parents who would like to sign up to receive gifts for their child can register at the Lake County Office of Public Assistance, 49627 U.S. Highway 93 in Polson.
