News from the Montana Board of Regents

LAKE COUNTY — Four school districts located within the Flathead Reservation — Polson School District, Ronan School District, St. Ignatius School District and Two Eagle School District — have been awarded a five-year, renewable Talent Search grant by the United States Department of Education.

The Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education will house the Montana Educational Talent Search grant that will bring in $617,760 annually and $3,0888,800 over the five-year span for the local schools and five other school districts in Montana, and two colleges. METS is a college access grant that works primarily with potential first generation, low-income 6-12 grade students. This current grant proposal will see an increase in tutoring services for middle school students and a Certified Nursing Assistance Academy for high school students.

In addition, there will be funding for a position working with METS program Alumni that began their post-secondary journey but have not completed it. The position will look at ways and work with participants to help them succeed in rejoining the educational pipeline.

The METS grant will serve three other target areas throughout Montana located on the Blackfeet Reservation (Browning School District and Heart Butte School District), the Crow Reservation (Hardin School District and Lodge Grass School District), and the Great Falls Public School District with a central office located in Helena.

Montana State University Billings and Montana Tech of the University of Montana also received Talent Search grants for their respective target schools.

OCHE has been a recipient of the grant for 30-plus years and is pleased to continue serving the students of Montana.
