Early Childhood Services is inviting anyone to participate in a “Naming Contest” for the Salish Language Preservation Project authorized through the Ester Martinez Immersion Grant and administered by ANA. We are creating an “Immersion Language Nest” for 0 to 3 year olds with the awarded grant funding. Our Nest will need a name and artistic design for a sign.
The contest is divided into two categories, students up to age 17 and adults age 18 to 112. The proposed name must be hand written in Salish on an 8.5 by 11 inch sheet of paper. The artwork may be included on the same sheet as the name or on a separate 8.5 by 11 inch sheet of paper. In two sentences, written in Salish or English, tell us why you chose this name.
One winner will be chosen overall. The prize for the student category is a family pass to Mission Valley Aquatic Center. The prize for the Adult category will be a Brain Tanned Smoked Deer hide. The winning name for the project and a short story about you will be published in the Char-Koosta and the Valley Journal. Also you will be the honored guest at our ribbon cutting ceremony.
