ST. IGNATIUS – The MAC softball team is catching fire and they don’t plan on being put out. Senior third baser Mikaylan Roylance has been a contributing factor to the Lady Bulldogs success.

“We definitely are at our best when we are hitting,” Roylance said. “When we start hitting well, we know it will be a good game.”

At a home game on Thursday, May 5 against the Ronan Maidens, the Lady Bulldogs really heated up the bats. Ronan, with a season record of 10-1, were no match for MAC. The Lady Bulldogs shutout the Maidens 10-0 with a mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Catcher Kenzie Couture played a solid game going 4 for 4 with four RBIs. She finds herself in a leadership role, being one of the main communicators on the field.

“I see everyone on the field from where I play,” Couture said. “I do try and let the girls know what needs to happen since I am the one at the plate.”

With communication and experience, the Lady Bulldogs can hold their own against most competitors, according to Head Coach Susan Weaselhead

“When we have been down, this group of girls can keep it together, “Weaselhead said. “They have that ability to come back.”

With their season coming to an end, MAC is focusing on being able to bat off of different pitchers.

“We are a team that can hit well off of fast pitches,” Roylance said. “We need to be prepared for all types of pitches.”

Weaselhead agrees and would like to see the adjustments happening at the plate.

“You don’t know what the pitcher is going to give you,” Weaselhead said. “It is our job to be able to answer at anything thrown our way.”

Senior Jordyn Eichert is confident that the Lady Bulldogs can place better at state than their third place finish last year.

“We are going to keep on winning and do the best we can at the end,” Eichert said.

Despite dominating the field, the team enjoys each other’s camaraderie.

“We are lucky because we are a family,” Couture said. “It is much closer than a normal team … it is unlike any other team I have played on.”

The Lady Bulldogs head to divisionals Friday in Anaconda.
