ST. IGNATIUS — Mission Valley Ministries, a new Southern Baptist Church in St. Ignatius, will open its doors to the community for worship in its new facility at 153 Main Street adjacent ?to Stuart’s NAPA at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7.
The gathering welcomes all ages and will include music, worship, and a message, “What Jesus Can Do for You,” taken from the first chapter of the Gospel of John.
“We have been in Mission for one year now and have had wonderful response from the residents,” says Dr. Chuck Morrison, pastor of the Mission Valley Ministries Church. “This is just our way of giving something back to the community.”
Mission Valley Ministries was established in 2015 with five members as a weekly Bible study and is now ready to launch a worship time on Sundays, according to Morrison.
Morrison said they have spent their first year establishing relationships in the community by participating in Chamber of Commerce events like Good Old Days, the community Easter Egg Hunt, and the community Children’s Christmas Carnival. Morrison helped lead caroling during the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights.
Bible classes will continue at the church on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
“We don’t see ourselves as in competition with existing churches in Mission,” Morrison said. “We hope that this ministry, as the first Southern Baptist work at this end of the Valley, will complement what other churches are doing to share the love of Christ with our neighbors, many who are suffering from addictions and the hurts of this world.”
Morrison was on the Christian Studies faculty of Grand Canyon University (formerly a Baptist School) for 16 years and served as adjunct professor of practical theology for Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary for 18 years.
