ST. IGNATIUS- Heroes, villains, and princesses roamed the halls of the St. Ignatius High School on Wednesday, Oct. 28, for a Student Serving Community club Halloween celebration.
Club members all dressed in costumes and stood next to decorated classroom doors to give out candy to children in the community. They also helped children with Halloween-themed crafts. Student volunteers and club members brought in treats like edible spiders, apple mouths and peanut butter cup broomsticks to give to the many community members who attended the event.
“SSC is about helping out the community for a good cause without getting paid,” said Sierra Esslinger, a sophomore dressed as Batwoman.
Kylie Wells, a freshman dressed as a cowboy, said “I like that we’re getting to do something special for the kids.”
SSC has put together a Halloween event for three out of the five years they’ve been active. Teacher Sarah Keast is the adviser for SSC.
“The event is a family night to offer a safe place for kids to enjoy Halloween,” Keast said.
SSC does a variety of projects throughout the year such as a highway clean-up, an all-pink dress up day and bake sale for breast cancer awareness and, of course, the Halloween event. The group plans to do many more community service projects throughout the remainder of the school year.
