News from CSKT Public Affairs & Communications PABLO — On June 9, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) elected officials acted to observe Juneteenth. In 2021, President Biden declared June 19 as a federal holiday in recognition of the emancipation of African Americans in the United States. This federal, and now CSKT, holiday will be observed on Monday, June 20 this year since the holiday falls on a Sunday. The motion to observe Juneteenth as a tribal holiday was made by Councilmember Martin Charlo, with a unanimous vote of support from the Tribal Council.
