Homesteading named theme for Dayton Daze
DAYTON — Dayton Daze, the annual fundraiser of the Chief Cliff VFD and QRU, celebrates the early settlers of the Flathead Valley with the theme: Homesteading the West. This year’s costume event takes us back once again to the Wild West where we’ll find cowgirls and cowboys, mountain men, settlers, and fancy dancehall girls, along with wagons and buggies from the early 1900s. Activities start at noon with food, beverages, rifle raffle (tickets also available at the Farmers Market throughout the summer), silent auction, can raffle, beer garden, kids’ games, parade (at 2 p.m. with prizes for best entries and costumes), and much, much more. The entire community comes out for this annual event, which offers a full day of family fun - rain or shine.

Peace Festival planned
The 16th annual Peace Festival is a free family event at the Garden of One Thousand Buddhas in Arlee, honoring interfaith and diverse cultures, with music that integrates love, humanity, and peace on earth. The festival begins with the 10th annual Mile Walk for Peace at 10 a.m. with participants circling the garden. The Peace Festival begins at 11 a.m. and features several guest speakers, live musical performances, and traditional dancing, food vendors and arts and crafts.
Stock car races provide family fun
POLSON — The Mission Valley Speedway Superoval, 1113 N. Reservoir Rd., is the site of Late Models, Mod 4’s, Hobby Stocks and Hornets racing. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for children 8-15; children under 7 are free. Seniors 55 and older, military and first responders pay a $10 admission fee. Family (two adults, three kids) is $40 general admission. RV dry camping fee is $50 per one RV. Time trials begin at 6 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. For more information call 406-212-8159.

Non-juried art exhibit open to all
POLSON — “Express Yourself” is the theme for a non-juried exhibit, open to all artists. This show is an invitation to our community artists and members to show us your creative side. Artistic interpretation of the theme, in any medium, will be considered for display. If you would like to participate in this exhibit, there is a $20 entry free for non-Sandpiper member artists and a 30% commission. Cancer support group meets
POLSON —A Cancer Support Group for anyone a?ected by cancer meets twice monthly at St. Joseph Medical Center from noon-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Gatherings are informal allowing folks to drop-in when schedules and life permits. Brown-bag lunches are welcome. The group will meet in the Leahy Conference Room on the third floor of the medical center. For more information call 406-261-3304.

Join Glacier National Park Animal Olympics
POLSON — On Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. the North Lake County Public Library welcomes Ranger Matt who will talk about the different types of work National Park Rangers do and what makes Glacier National Park so special. Then get ready to play Animal Olympics and learn about some amazing adaptations that local animals have and how truly remarkable they are.

Flathead Audobon Society offers Jewel Basin hawk watch field trip
JEWEL BASIN — Dan Casey will lead a trip to the Jewel Basin Hawk Watch site on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The second half of September offers peak numbers and diversity of passing raptors. We expect to see more than 100 hawks of 10 or more species, if conditions are right. This trip involves a 2.2 mile hike of moderate difficulty (each way), gaining 1,400 vertical feet from the Jewel Basin parking lot. Attendees should wear sturdy footwear; hiking poles are recommended. You should also bring binoculars, water, lunch and clothing layers for changing weather conditions (we will cancel or reschedule if weather conditions are unsuitable). Carpooling will be encouraged for vaccinated people as the road to the Jewel Basin is rough and parking limited. Time of trip includes both driving from Bigfork and hiking to the viewing area.
