‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Order Mission birthday calendars through Sept. 20

ST. IGNATIUS — Orders for the Mission Chamber of Commerce birthday calendars will be taken between now and the deadline of Sept. 20. There will be a table at Rod’s Harvest Foods from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Aug. 3, Aug. 21, Aug. 24 and Sept. 4. If you are unable to order at those times, contact LaVonne Olmsted at 406-745-3423. The price of the calendars remains $10. If you wish to add extra names and dates outside your household, there is a 50-cent additional charge for each name and date.

Seminar on relationships offered free to all

Arlee-Jocko museum through Labor Day

ARLEE — The Arlee Jocko Valley Museum, run by the Arlee Historical Society, opens for the summer July 4 and will be open every other Saturday from 2-4 p.m. or by appointment, until Labor Day. The museum has many historical displays including many photographs of Native and homesteading families. There are hundreds of obituaries with genealogy information. There is also a military display commemorating those who have given their lives for this country. The Arlee Museum is located at the corner of Bouch and Fyant (by the grade school). Quilters begin new year of sewing

RONAN – The new year for the Mission Mountain Quilt Guild begins on Sept. 1 at the Terrace Lake Community Church, (formerly the Alliance Church), in Ronan, on Terrace Lake Road. Please try to come by 6 p.m., as we will sign up our new membership list for this year. Be prepared to pay $15 dues.

Tribe invites public to Kerr Dam celebration

PABLO — The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes invite the community to participate in an event to commemorate the tribal acquisition of the Kerr Hydroelectric Project on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Joe McDonald Gymnasium at Salish Kootenai College. The tribal community and general public are welcome to attend the event, which will include a luncheon and commemorative gifts of T-shirts and posters. Traditional regalia is welcome. Attendees may participate in the opening procession.

Museum shows ‘The Patriot’

POLSON – On Sept. 10, The Miracle of America Museum will present a feature length film by Columbia Pictures entitled, “The Patriot,” staring Mel Gibson.

This is a fitting film shown one day before National Patriot Day and a week before National Citizenship Day. 

Gil will also dry-fire demonstrate a couple of Revolutionary War guns, and explain some of the accessories of the period Minuteman/ Continental Soldier.

Tailgate party on tap at Masumola Club

POLSON — On Thursday, Sept. 10, the Masumola Club begins their meeting with a social time at 5:45 p.m. Come join your neighbors and friends at the clubhouse where the Holms, Clarks and Williamsons will host a barbeque event that is a football tailgate party. Thanks to Jim Sohm for arranging to have Mick Holien, the “Voice of the Grizzlies,” as our guest speaker. Wear your favorite team colors and bring something to grill on the barbecue. The hosts will have the barbecues going and will provide ketchup, mustard, relish and barbecue sauce for those of you who need them. In addition to bringing their own meat to grill, members should also bring a dish to share: Those with a last name beginning with A – H should bring a dessert, I – O should bring a salad or vegetable and P – Z should bring a hot dish. Dues were collected at our June meeting. If you missed that, please bring your check: $15 for an individual or $30 for a family takes care of you through May of 2016.
