‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

RONAN — The Pioneer Days celebration begins on Friday, Aug. 2 and continues through Sunday, Aug. 4 at the Ronan Fairgrounds. Ronan Pioneer Days is a community event with fun for the whole family. The Kid’s Fishing Derby takes place at Ronan City Park from 8 a.m.-noon. A golf scramble happens at the Mission Mountain Golf Course beginning at 10 a.m. Bulls and Broncs Rodeo takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Street dances with live music take place from 9 p.m.-1:30 a.m. There will be plenty of good old-fashioned entertainment. CHARLO — Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana History invites the public to meet local and indigenous artists, artisans, musicians and photographers, and enjoy delicious huckleberry pastries from Allard’s Huckleberry Jam Factory on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Our August event features traditional Native artisans Aspen and Cameron Decker, cartoon and wool felt artisans Terry and Shawn Davis, mohair tack artisan Janey Salomon, Potter Carolyn Schoening, and musician Lyle Cronk playing and singing old western ballads. Author Dave Scott will sign his book about fighting wildfires “Fury of the Beast,” and Ruthie Nelian will be here to play her flute and chat about her book “The Sweet Taste of the Last Slice,” chronicling her experience as a hospice nurse. 

Pioneer Days plays 3-0n-3 game

RONAN — Mission Valley 3-on-3 Ronan Pioneer Days event will be held Aug. 3 at the Ronan Event Center parking lots. Divisions will start with 1st grade through adults with a coed division. 

Free throw, 3-point contests and dunk contests held on Leonard Park Logging Center Court. 

Each team entry is $160 ($5 transaction fee if pay online).

Tickets are $65 a person. All proceeds from the event will directly support the Flathead Lakers and our mission to safeguard clean water and protect healthy ecosystems in the Flathead watershed.

The purchase of a ticket for the Summer Soiree covers food, beverage, and entertainment costs for the evening. We welcome additional donations to the work of the Flathead Lakers and will be making a special appeal at the event.

Pachyderms to meet at noon

POLSON — Our next Lake County Pachyderm meeting is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9, at noon at the Polson Rural Fire Station located at 25 Regatta Road. Our guest speaker will be Susie Hedalen, who is running for Montana Superintendent of Public Schools - OPI. We will also have a brand new PA system for the meeting. A special thank you to the Wold family for their donation towards the PA system. The PA system will enable people who have hearing challenges to better hear the speakers.

BIG ARM — On Friday, Aug. 9, a potluck will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the historic Big Arm School. The guest speaker will be Tom Bansak, assistant director of the Biological Station. Bring your favorite dish to share with neighbors from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Tom’s presentation will begin around 6:30 p.m. Tom is a freshwater ecologist at the U of M Flathead’s Biological Station. He will discuss the fact that the Biological Station is 125 years old and discuss its programs and accomplishments since its founding in 1899 along with what the future holds. POLSON — The 53rd annual Courthouse Art Festival will be held on the Lake County Court House Lawn from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Sandpiper Art Gallery & Gifts presents our Summer Art Festival for 2024, on Aug. 10. This is the Flathead Valley’s favorite one-day festival with over 80 booths. Featured are artists and crafters and live entertainment throughout the day. Food vendors include the Corn Dog House & Kettle Corn. 

Car Show to be held in downtown Polson

POLSON — On Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., the annual “Cruisin’ By The Bay” Car show will take place with awards given at 2 p.m. Club members do not vote on show cars. One of a kind custom trophies will be given to Top Ten and Best of Show. All new cash prizes.

Rotary Club Brewfest fundraiser on tap

POLSON — The 2024 Youth Fundraiser Brewfest is an annual fundraiser benefitting Mission Valley youth. It will take place in conjunction with Art Festival and Car Show on Saturday, Aug. 10. Since 2007, the Polson club has distributed over $390,000 to various youth programs. Raffle tickets will be sold for a choice of five prizes worth approximately $1000.

Run for Beer

We’ve mapped out a 5k-ish course that starts and ends at this awesome taproom by Flathead Lake. Run, walk, or jog before celebrating with a locally made craft beverage at the finish line. The 5k course takes you through scenic routes with beautiful surroundings while getting your heart pumping. Gather your friends and come join us at Glacier Brewing Co on Aug. 10.
