‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Free 'Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care' training held

PABLO — On April 22, from noon3 p.m. at Salish Kootenai College, Teresa Nygaard will present a free training entitled, "Utilizing Aces & Trauma Informed Care." Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) is a term to describe traumatic events occurring before age 18. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that without supports can have long-term negative effects. When “we” are trauma-informed, we realize the impact of trauma and understand there is potential for recovery. We recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in those that we interact with and in ourselves. We respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into procedures, policies and practices. We seek to actively resist re-traumatization. We stop asking “What’s happening to you?” This training delves into this topic, responding to participants based on their pre-existing knowledge of the topic.

Credits are available.

LONE PINE STATE PARK — On Saturday, May 25, from 8-11 a.m. join Flathead Audubon Conservation educator Denny Olsen for a morning learning adventure. Forging an unlikely union between science, humor, and drama, Denny has established a reputation as an innovative performer and educator. This program is recommended for older teenagers and adults to build your bird identification skills. Wear sturdy walking shoes, bring water and a snack, and dress for the weather. Bring along your favorite field guide if you have one.

ELMO — Join us in the Tribal Health Elmo Community Room from 3-5:30 p.m. while the Tribal Healthcare Resource Team assists you and your family in completing and submitting your application for Medicaid, HMK or CHIP. 

Bring a valid ID, income verification (last 30 days), birth certificate for newborns. 

Completing the application process enters your name into a raffle for big prizes including: 43” Roku Smart TV, adult bicycle with helmet, or a child’s bicycle with helmet.

‘Murph’ workout event held in Charlo

CHARLO — This Memorial Day, Impact Montana will be partnering with Mountain Man Wrestling Club and hosting the iconic “Murph” workout at Charlo High School. This event is open to all fitness levels and scaling options will be provided – come participate to honor our fallen military warriors. We will be allowing you to complete the workout individually or, if you’d like to lighten the load, as a team of 2 or 4 ($10/person). We look forward to competing and sweating through it with all of you. Briefing and warm up will start at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds will benefit both organizations.

Walk to view wildflowers

BIGFORK — On Sunday, May 25, Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park will hold walk to view wildflowers. Meet at the Ranger Station; the walk goes from 10-11:30 a.m. Come learn about the different species of vibrant flowers that grow each spring and summer in our Flathead Lake State Parks. Please bring/wear weather appropriate clothing, proper footwear, snacks, and a water bottle. These hikes are limited to 20 people and registration can be done by calling the ranger station at 406-837-3041 ext. 0. The cost is $4 per participant, and free for kids 12 and under.

Our special guests will be the Undem Family, who will be bringing their stock car to show us. Story Time is geared toward kindergarten readiness, ages 3-5, but everyone is welcome. We read books, make crafts, and play games. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join in this interactive program.

KALSIPELL — On Saturday, June 1, from 8:30 a.m-1 p.m., Lone Pine State Park, in collaboration with Foy’s to Blacktail Trails, invites outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers to join forces in an inspiring initiative to improve our trails on National Trails Day. This event promises a day of camaraderie and stewardship as participants come together to enhance the natural beauty of our beloved trails. By working in groups, volunteers will engage in a variety of trail maintenance activities, including pulling noxious weeds and repairing damaged sections of trail infrastructure. Participants will be treated to lunch provided by the generous support of the Kalispell Daybreak Rotary Club.

Deadline fo applications arrives

HELENA — Applications are due June 1 for Montana licenses to hunt sandhill cranes and swans this coming fall.   Apply online at: ols.fwp.mt.gov or over the counter at any FWP office no later than June 1.     

 Special sanhill crane hunting districts that require applications for licenses are mostly in the Pacific Flyway of western Montana. Swan hunters may apply for either the Pacific Flyway or Central Flyway, but not both. Hunters may apply online at: ols.fwp.mt.gov or over the counter at any FWP regional or area office no later than June 1. Regulations for all waterfowl and webless migratory bird hunting seasons are available on the FWP website.

New support group begins in Ronan

RONAN — The purpose of Mission Valley Neurodegenerative Disease Support Group is to provide an opportunity for individuals and their loved ones to connect with others who are also living with PD, MS or ALS. POLSON — The North Lake County Public Library is holding a Book Donation Day on Thursday, June 6. You are welcome to bring material donations today from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on those dates. There is a limit of two boxes at a time. Our Friends of the Library have taken over management of our donation program and have set the third Thursday of each month as “Donation Day.” They added the extra day to give everyone the best selection for the Book Sale in June. Golf for the Griz

RONAN — The Mission Mountain Chapter of the Grizzly Scholarship Association invites you to join us for the Golf for the Griz Memorial Tournament taking place at the Mission Mountain Golf Club on June 7, 2024. The shotgun start will be at 11 a.m., and Coach and Athletic Dept. representatives will begin presentations prior to the start. Registration fee is $115 per person or $460 per 4-person team which includes Green Fees, Cart, Golf Score Prizes, a Snack Bar Buffet, and Dinner. Extra dinner price is $25 per person.
