‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Fort Connah Rendezvous

ST. IGNATIUS Fort Connah Historic Restoration Society invites you to the final day of the 2024 Rendezvous at Trading Post located at Post Creek on US Highway 93, 7 miles north of St. Ignatius. 

The Rendezvous is packed with activities: black powder rifle competition, horse-drawn wagon rides, children’s games and more. 

Fort Connah opens to the public at 10 a.m. A bison roast lunch with beans and a biscuit takes place from 1-2 p.m. Historical presentations take place throughout the day.

Take Dad on a hike

BIGFORK — Take a Father’s Day guided hike on the West Shore Unit of Flathead Lake State Park.

Meet at the boat trailer parking area; the walk goes from 10-11:30 a.m. Please bring/wear weather appropriate clothing, proper footwear, snacks, and a water bottle. 

These hikes are limited to 20 people and registration can be done by calling the ranger station at 406-837-3041 ext. 0. The cost is $4 per participant, and free for kids 12 and under.

POLSON — The North Lake County Public Library is holding a Book Donation Day on Thursday, June 6. You are welcome to bring material donations today from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on those dates. There is a limit of two boxes at a time. Our Friends of the Library have taken over management of our donation program and have set the third Thursday of each month as “Donation Day.” They added the extra day to give everyone the best selection for the Book Sale in June. RONAN — Mission West Community Development Partners will offer a free workshop titled “Storytelling with Images” on Wednesday, June 20, from 1-4 p.m. Learn how to use images to make your website and social media tell your story.

 We will look at example photos and your photos to pick out the parts of a photo that deliver your story and the parts that detract from your story. This hands-on workshop is available in-person and live through Zoom.

ARLEE — (Registration closes on June 19 and there is no late registration.) Team check-in takes place at 4:30 p.m. and the tournament takes place from 5 p.m.-midnight. The 3-on-3 tournament takes place at the Arlee Powwow Pavilion. The event is free for kids entering 3rd grade through 8th grade for the 2024-25 school year. There will be door prizes and the top four teams in each bracket will win prizes. There will be three brackets:

POLSON — On Saturday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. Pollinator Week Program will take place at the North Lake County Public Library. The Lake County Conservation District is hosting a 90-minute workshop. Learn to identify and track pollinators, their habitats and how to participate in local citizen science initiatives. This workshop will have a short lecture, hands-on learning with the tracking technology, followed by a pollinator walk. This event is open to all ages and backgrounds.

PLAINS — The Mission Valley 3-on-3 Wildhorse Shootout, held in conjunction with the Wildhorse Sports Association, takes place on Saturday June 22, at the Amundson Sports Complex. POLSON — On July 1 at 6 p.m. a Butch Larcombe book talk, and book signing will take place. Larcombe is a local author. He will have a new book, “Historic Tales of Flathead Lake,” coming out in late June 2024. He will share about writing the book and answer your questions. He will also be selling and signing copies of his latest release. We have limited space, so we are asking you to register for this program. POLSON — The next Pachyderm meeting will be held on at noon on June 28 at the Polson Rural Fire Station. Our next speaker is author Charles Garner who recently wrote the book titled “A Canary in a Coal Mine - Hope for a Culture in Free Fall,” which is a book on how we can still save our Country. Charles is also a curriculum designer, and a teacher to the church. Please feel free to bring lunch/drinks to the meeting. We look forward to seeing everyone at this meeting - you will enjoy hearing Charles speak.
