Hot Springs Artists Society holds 2014 Juried Art Show through June 30
HOT SPRINGS — Hot Springs Artists Society’s 2014 Juried Art Show will be in May and June with entry forms out by the end of February. It is open to everyone. Paintings, drawings, mixed media and sculpture, carving, metal sculpture, pottery and other original handmade works of art are accepted.

Quilt Guild prepares for monthly meeting

Murdoch’s hosts grand opening event

First Saturdays to promote local artists
CHARLO – The Mission Valley has been blessed to have a large number of diverse artists living and creating works here in the valley. Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana is pleased to use the gift shop as a venue to promote local artists during “First Saturday” throughout the summer months, June through September.
The first of four artists, Guy Rowbury, will be on hand 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 7. Plan to stop by between 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. on July 5 to see photographer Larry Kjorvestad. Karen Noles and her paintings will be featured from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Aug. 2. Husband and wife Heather and Matt Holmes will be on hand with their pottery on Sept. 6 from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Piano recital to entertain with classical music
POLSON — On Sunday, June 8, at 4 p.m. Josiah and Rachael Pettit with Michael Vergeront will present a piano recital at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Polson. The program will include Beethoven Pathetique Sonata, Chopin First Ballade, Moonlight Sonata, plus works of Debussy and de Falla. Josiah, 16, and Rachael, 18, are the children of Jim and Shirley Pettit of Ronan, who play at numerous events around the valley as The Little Big Band. Reception planned for Rev. Perry retirement

The Red Poppy celebrates 9th anniversary
RONAN — On Sunday, June 8, The Red Poppy will celebrate its 9th anniversary by showcasing the work of art and pottery teacher, Olivia Lynn Olsen. This year her show is titled “Masked Emotions,” and will hang in the gallery until the fourth week in August. On the stage at 2 p.m. a program of classical music will feature piano and string chamber music, including several movements from a Haydn Trio and the first movement from Dohnanyi’s first piano quintet. The young musicians will include Elissa Taylor (piano), Magnolia Chinn, (violin), and Oliver Chinn (cello). As always, the afternoon is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the program.

Audubon speaker to discuss National Park in Chile
POLSON — “Pumas, Guanacos, and Patagonia National Park” by Jim Williams will be the next evening program of the Mission Mountain Audubon Society on Thursday, June 12, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room. Jim was sponsored by Patagonia Inc. to travel to the southern end of the world as a conservation ambassador. He has been involved with puma research, management, and conservation for more than 20 years.

Marine Lewis to speak about flags, walk across America
POLSON — Flag Day will be celebrated a couple of days early at the second Thursday evening program at the Miracle of America Museum, on June 12 at 6:30 pm. The program will cover the history of our American Flag and flag etiquette presented by Marine Sgt. Chuck Lewis. Lewis will also discuss his walk across America for wounded veterans. Library trustee candidate submissions due
POLSON — North Lake County Public Library District is seeking applicants for an opening on its Board of Trustees. Residency within the district’s boundaries (the same boundaries as Polson High School District #23) and a desire to serve are required for this volunteer position. The successful candidate will complete the term of a retiring trustee and will be eligible to run for office in the spring of 2015. Deadline for application submission is June 13.

Church holds fundraiser for summer camp
RONAN — A Friday the 13th Dinner and Auction fundraiser for the LDS Young Women ages 12-18, to go to girls summer camp at Seeley Lake in July, will be held in the gym at the LDS church in Ronan (4 blocks behind True Value) The barbecue chicken and roasted potatoes dinner will start at 6 p.m. The auction is donated items, services and homemade cakes and goodies and will start at about 6:45 p.m. Auction items include: kid's bike; quilts; quilted wall hangings; homemade jellies; large variety of food safe containers; youth performing services like: babysitting and car washes etc.; frozen meals; 4 yards of gravel; garden plants; movie basket and baby bull cow are a few of the items. Public invited to Flag Retirement Ceremony

RONAN — The “4-H Fun Run and Walk” is scheduled for June 14 at 9:30 a.m. at Community Bank-Ronan, Highway 93, Ronan, where the race starts and packet pick-up will be. Young Eagles to fly in Polson
POLSON — EAA chapter 1122 will be flying Young Eagles at the Polson airport on Saturday, June 14, from 9-11 a.m. for International Young Eagles Day. All children between the ages of 8 and 17, with their parents’ approval, can get a ride in an airplane free of charge.
