‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. ‘Stepping On’ class teaches seniors strength, balance through May 27

POLSON — St. Joseph Medical Center is holding “Stepping On,” a falls-prevention program. This class meets for two hours a week for seven weeks starting April 15. It aims to reduce the more than one-third of adults 65 or older who fall every year. By joining our “Stepping On” workshop, you will learn tips on strength and balance exercises, identification of safe footwear, medications' contribution to fall-risk, eliminating fall hazards in your home, and so much more. This course has been shown to reduce fall risk by up to 30 percent. Join and learn with people your own age how to step outside your home with confidence. POLSON — Community Bank will sponsor their annual “Community After-tax Shred Day” on Friday, May 16, at Polson Community Bank from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. The mobile shred truck will be on location at Community Bank to shred your personal documents for free (limit 2 boxes). Polson Police will also be on site to accept and safely dispose of any prescriptions and/or prescription bottles. Senior Medicare Patrol members and Community Bank staff will be on hand with tips to help consumers protect themselves from identity theft.

RONAN — Ronan High School presents “Fine Arts Spring Fling” on May 19 and 20 at the Ronan Performing Arts Center. On the evening of May 20, an event featuring students performing solos, ensembles, and large group numbers with styles ranging from classical, pop, and humorous, vocal, instrumental, and skits will be performed. 

These are a culmination of this year’s hard work of the band and choir. It will be a very entertaining evening. Both nights will also include visual arts displays produced by the students and set up throughout the commons. There will be a $5 charge for this event. Veterans encouraged to attend mentor training

RONAN — Tom Camel will be presenting a video on Veteran’s mentoring filmed in Missoula in 2013. This is mentor training for veterans that mentor veterans with substance abuse or mental health problems who have been accused of or convicted of a serious crime. Tom Camel is interested in getting a Veterans’ Court started in Lake County. Anyone interested (especially veterans) please attend these classes. POLSON — Partners in Suicide Prevention and Intervention will hold an educational meeting on Thursday, May 22, from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m., on the third floor of the Tribal Health Building (conference room), 5 Fourth Ave. E. The topic of this meeting will be: the problem with methamphetamines and other drugs, a growing concern in our community. Wade Nash, Chief of the Polson Police Department, will share invaluable insight, information and data on these issues. Lunch will be catered. Stock rodeo raises cancer funds

ARLEE — The third and final “Spur The Cancer Out Of Montana” rough stock rodeo will take place memorial weekend. This event includes bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding and barrel racing for the ladies. The PBR short round bull Chocolate Thunder and the boys from Bird Bucking Bulls will be joining in on the fun.
