‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Lenten soup suppers begin

POLSON — Midweek Lenten services and soup suppers begin at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 409 Fourth Ave., E. in Polson, on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13, and continue through March 20. Soup suppers will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the worship service at 6:30 p.m. The choir and high school youth group will meet after the service at 7:15 p.m. Marty Haugen’s “That You May Have Life” liturgy for Lent will be used, with the studies centered around the scriptures for each week.

Gallery features Native American art show

POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery is hosting the Native American Art Invitational Feb. 26 through April 5 at the gallery located at 306 Main St. in Polson.

Salish and Kootenai College Art Department faculty and students have contributed work to this exhibit. New SKC Art Department Director Karen Goulet and faculty member Frank Finley are both featured. Native American artists Ben Pease and D.G. House have also been invited to exhibit work. An opening reception will be held at the Gallery on Friday, March 1, from 5-7pm.

RONAN — There will be a community dance on the 22nd of March starting at 6 p.m. and going until 10 p.m.  It will be at the Terrace Lake Community Church on Terrace Lake Road. The Little Big Band will be performing all your favorite “big band” and “classic country” dance tunes. As always we have great refreshments and company. If you don’t dance, come and learn or just get out and unplug and visit your neighbors for a change. Hope to see you there.

Entertainers Neal, Karen Lewing to speak at Pachyderm Club

POLSON — Port Polson Players producers Neal and Karen Lewing will be the guest speakers at the March 22 meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club.

The Lewings have spent their professional lives in the field of entertainment. Port Polson Players has been their focus for the past 30 years. Their talk will be about the evolution of the Port Polson Players and also the outlook for arts education in school and community economic development.

Anyone interested in hearing the Lewings is welcome to attend. The meeting is held at the Polson Rural Fire Department building just north of the Polson Bridge. Social time starts at 11:30 a.m. with a brown bag lunch. The meeting begins at noon and lasts an hour.

Historic School to host Irish dinner and show in Big Arm

BIG ARM — On Friday, March 22, the Big Arm Historic School will host an Irish evening. A delicious corned beef dinner with dessert will be served and the Montana ShamRockers will entertain with us with Irish tunes and humor. The tickets are $10 per person. Chicago pastor shares story

Missoula Children’s Theatre, Charlo/Dixon schools team up

CHARLO — Students from the Charlo and Dixon schools will present “The Tortoise versus the Hare” at the Charlo Gym at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. This creative song-filled tale is another offering by the Missoula Children’s Theatre; a nonprofit organization based in Missoula, and is sponsored by the Ninepipe Arts Group along with the Charlo and Dixon schools. Students and the actor/directors from MCT have rehearsed for only one week, as auditions were held Monday, March 18. Ticket prices are $2 for adults and $1 for children. Polson Fire Department to hold 12th annual ball

POLSON — The 12th annual Firefighter’s Ball is Saturday, March 23, at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. This year’s theme is “Some Like it Hot.”  Tickets are on sale at Glacier Bank, (406) 883-8300. The ball’s social/cocktail hour is at 6 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m. A live band will perform starting at 8 p.m. There will be a silent auction along with door prizes, etc.

The fire department is an all-volunteer organization and the funds raised at the ball go to help the fire department purchase needed equipment.

The public is encouraged to come support and celebrate the Polson Volunteer Fire Department.

RONAN — Big Productions Concert series continues on Monday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. with The Makem and Spain Brothers. They will be performing at the Ronan Performing Arts Center with a variety of instruments and four male vocals, using precise three-part, perfectly blended harmonies. Hunter's ed offered in Arlee

ARLEE — Arlee hunter education registration will be held Monday, March 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the Arlee Fire Hall. The course is open to everyone, but anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must have successfully completed the course to purchase a hunting license in Montana. To complete the course, students are required to attend all classes, pass a written examination and demonstrate good attitude and ability. All parents are wel classes with their youngsters. One parent is required to sign the registration form at the first meeting. The class materials will be handed out at registration to allow the students to study the material before the first class. The class schedule will be determined during the first meeting.

Celebrate Seder

POLSON — Mission Valley Christian Academy, in partnership with Pastor Marty Kaarre and wife Darla, invite the community to join in a celebration and teaching of the Seder meal. The full sit-down meal will be served at your reserved seat, beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26. 

Starting with the celebration of the Passover of the Jews leaving Egypt and ending with Christ hosting the Last Supper with his disciplines. Every part of this meal is very meaningful and contemplative.

Quilters to socialize

RONAN — The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold it’s annual potato social on April 2 at 6 p.m. at the Terrace Lake Community Church on Terrace Lake Road. Guests are invited. If you have questions, contact Deleen Winters. Our meeting will start at 7 p.m.  Donita Reeves of Lakeside Quilting in Polson will be showing us how to piece quilt backing using a diagonal cutting method. The quilt show is in August. Be working on your challenge quilts, your theme quilts, the backing for the ribbons and things for the Country Store. Don’t forget the Toni Whitney class scheduled for March 23.
