‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. 4-H offers leather workshop

RONAN — Lake County 4-H is hosting a beginner’s leather craft workshop on March 1. Taught by Jamie Lake, participants will learn how to make personalized leather drink coasters and leather wallets. Participants should bring their own leather working tools and mallet as supply on hand will be limited.  While there is no charge to take the class, there will be a materials fee of $5 covering the leather. Class will be held at the Lake County Extension Office in Ronan from 10 a.m. until noon. Space is limited to 10 participants. Call the Lake County Extension office at (406) 676-4271 to join.

March ‘Pursuits’ night focuses on fishing

ST. IGNATIUS — On March 2, a whole new “Pursuits” fun night is planned at Mission Valley United Methodist Church. Fishing in this God-given area is great and so Dick Wunderlich, with his 10 years experience with the Mack Day derby and many years of personal fishing, will guide us for the evening.

This family-oriented event begins with a fish taco supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by a talk and fly-tying demonstrations. There will also be fish-type games including fishponds with prizes for the little ones. There will be something for all ages and the public is always welcome. Look for more “Pursuits” nights coming on the first Sundays of each month: April 6 and May 4.

ARLEE — The Lake County Parks Board is developing a countywide parks and trails plan and is seeking public comment on the draft. The board will hold three public meetings to present key elements of the plan and to understand the public’s ideas for the development and maintenance of parks and trails. 

The first meeting will be held Monday, March 3 at the Tribal Community Center in Arlee at 6 p.m.

The board will hold three public meetings to present key elements of the plan and to understand the public’s ideas for the development and maintenance of parks and trails.

Youth baseball signups set

POLSON — Polson Youth Baseball signups for ages 4 – 15 are scheduled for Feb. 27 and March 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. both nights. Signups will be located in the Polson Middle School cafeteria. We are also taking coaching applications for all age groups. If you would like to sponsor a team, please let us know. Team sponsors are very much appreciated.

Polson Chamber invites Glacier Park speakers

Herb group to gather

POLSON — The next gathering of the “Thyme for Herbs Group” is Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in the North Lake County Public Library Meeting Room, 2 First Ave. E (use the east side door). 

Discussion topics include: herbs you need for everyday health issues, how easy it is to grow herbs, strategies for growing herbs in small spaces, planning your herb and vegetable garden.

Miracle of America Museum portrays artist's technique

On Thursday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m., the Miracle of America Museum will feature the story of an artist who spent three days at the museum last summer. Three 30-minute videos show Roger Bansemer of Florida demonstrating his technique for creating beautiful paintings. While visiting, he used the museum’s log cabin and one of the steam tractors as a blank canvas to demonstrate his talent. The videos include snippets of a documentary by his wife, Sarah. The final video depicts the artist’s dive to the Titanic to paint the legendary vessel. There is no charge for the event, but treats and/or free-will offerings will be accepted.
