‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Enjoy a ‘Forest Bathing Session’

KALISPELL — On Saturday, Feb. 26, from 12:30-2 p.m. experience nature in a new way with a forest bathing walk led by certified forest therapy guide Ellen Horowitz. Forest bathing is a practice of going outdoors and opening all your senses to soak and immerse yourself in the atmosphere. The entire walk is 1.5 hours in duration and often covers no more than a quarter mile distance. For more than four decades, Ellen Horowitz has connected people to nature as a naturalist, hiking guide, field instructor, writer and Certified Forest Therapy Guide. Light, shadows workshop offered

POLSON — Join the North Lake County Public Library for a “Leap into Science – Light and Shadows Workshop” on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. in the large meeting room. There will be story time and a shadow puppet show and hands-on learning stations.

Learn winter tracking skills during hike

KALISPELL — On Sunday, Feb. 27, from 3-5 p.m. join this two-hour hike and learn a bit about the basics of tracking animals in winter. Take a walk through Lone Pine and look for tracks in the snow. Learn to identify different common prints from Northwest Montana forest residents. You’ll also explore what to look for besides footprints to tell you what critters have passed through the forest ahead of you. Snowshoes are available for rent at $5 per pair or $10 per group up to 5.

Learn to talk through conflict

ZOOM/KALISPELL — “Conflict Resolution for Better Teams” will be taught on March 4 (Zoom option) at Flathead Valley Community College. Conflict continues to be the largest people-challenge we have. Test your conflict resolution meter – how you and others respond to conflict – and learn techniques to effectively talk through conflict with others on your team. Through a partnership with FVCC, Mission West Community Development Partners offers the chance to attend these workshops free of charge. We will enroll you in the workshops and pay the fee. To be eligible, you must own or work for a for-profit small business with ten or fewer employees located in Lake, Mineral or Sanders County. Clinic on ice fishing offered for women

LAKE MARY RONAN — The Montana Wildlife Federation Artemis Sportswomen invite interested people to the first annual Montana Women’s Ice Fishing Clinic on Lake Mary Ronan scheduled for Saturday, March 5, from 6 a.m. until dark. This one-day event is meant to nurture new and experienced ice anglers alike, build community and help women feel confident on the ice. 

Though experienced anglers will be present to help with set-up and to give fishing tips, the Women’s Ice Fishing Clinic is not a guided outing. It is not guaranteed success. It is, however, guaranteed fun.

Bring warm boots, extra socks, warm gloves, warm hat, lots of layers, thermos/travel mug and camp chair and if you have them bring: ice fishing pole, lures and bait, hemostats, bucket (doubles as a chair), hand warmers, crampons and other ice fishing equipment. The Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will have their next monthly meeting at the VFW on Round Butte Rd. on March 8, at 7:30 p.m. There will be a discussion about our up and coming class on First Aid and CPR scheduled for March 26. The theme for Wednesday, March 9, is “God Leads Us.” In a verse that is simple to read and harder to follow, we confess that God will lead us along paths that provide life for us and all of creation. So let’s follow the trail that Jesus is blazing before us. Whether we’re happy with our own path or stumbling on uprooted branches, God is leading us throughout our daily lives.
