Class for Caregivers through Feb. 19
POLSON — “A Powerful Tools for Caregivers” class is scheduled for six Wednesdays, Jan. 15-Feb. 19, at the O’Maley meeting room in Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. The time for the class is 10-11:30 a.m. This free class is sponsored by the Area VI Agency on Aging, St. Joe’s and Lake Co. Extension Service, to help caregivers take care of themselves, better understand their emotions, communicate more effectively and find local resources. 4-H offers leather workshop
RONAN — Lake County 4-H is hosting a beginner’s leather craft workshop on Feb. 15 and March 1. Taught by Jamie Lake, participants will learn how to make personalized leather drink coasters and leather wallets. Participants should bring their own leather working tools and mallet as supply on hand will be limited. While there is no charge to take the class, there will be a combined materials fee of $5 covering the leather for both projects. Both classes will be held at the Lake County Extension Office in Ronan from 10 a.m. until noon. Space is limited to 10 participants. Call the Lake County Extension office at (406) 676-4271 to join.
Arlee students raising funds for D.C. trip
ARLEE — The Arlee High School Close-Up group is raising funds to send students on a weeklong trip in May to Washington, D.C. The group is having a silent auction during the home basketball games against Charlo on Saturday, Feb. 15. Many interesting items have been donated and will be for sale. Elks host Valentine prime rib, prawn dinner

Essay contest winners to be announced
ST. IGNATIUS — Kuilix Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Good Citizen Essay contest winners from four local high schools, will be announced and awarded on Saturday, Feb. 15. First place wins $250, second place wins $100 and third place wins $50. Students, teachers, parents and friends are invited to the United Methodist Church (top of the hill) on Highway 93, north of St. Ignatius. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by the awards. Glacier National Park offers free admission
GLACIER PARK — Entrance fees to Glacier National Park, as well as other units of the National Park Service will be waived on Feb. 15-17, in commemoration of President’s Day weekend.
Water users to hold potluck

Fyant to hold district meeting
ARLEE — Shelly Fyant, Arlee District representative to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Council, will hold a district meeting on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Arlee Community Center on Pow-wow Road from 12-4 p.m. Tribal presentations on Land Buy Back, Affordable Health Care, workforce development survey and KERR Dam will begin at noon and an open discussion will follow. POLSON — Soup’s On Open House will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Wander Inn, at the corner of Seventh Ave. West and First Street West, across from Dempsey’s.
Soup’s On provides a free meal weekly, Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Open House will have snacks and fun activities. To remind everyone of the grave affordable-housing crisis in Polson, a tipi will stand at the entrance. Donations gratefully accepted.

Consulting firm presents Polson Fire District evaluation information

BIG ARM — The monthly Big Arm Association potluck supper will be held at the Big Arm Historic School on Friday, Feb. 21. Guest speakers will be returning Army soldiers Aimee and Jeff Lamoreaux. They will be talking about their duties while deployed in the U.S. Army with the 495th CSSB (Combat Sustainment and Support Battalion) in Afghanistan.

HOT SPRINGS — The Missoula Children’s Theater is coming to Hot Springs with a great performance of Cinderella on Feb. 21. In addition, local school children have a very nice display of art hanging at the On the Wall Gallery that will be up until Feb. 27. Their work includes drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery and more.

Celebrate reading, meet authors at fundraiser
POLSON — Celebrate ‘I Love To Read’ month on Saturday, Feb. 22, by attending the ‘Meet the Author Night Fundraiser’ at the Mission Valley Christian Academy on Highway 35 in Polson. A $5 cover charge will be collected at the door from 2-8 p.m. Many local and regional authors and publishers will be on hand to sell books, sign copies and visit about their love of reading and writing. Paul Fugleberg’s collection of Schnitzmeyer photos will be on display, and a slideshow of photos from the Lake County School House history books will be presented. Fundraiser helps feed hungry
POLSON — The Winter Fest benefiting Soup’s On takes place Saturday, Feb. 22, beginning at 5 p.m. Admission is $9 for pork dinner, with entertainment by Southern Comfort Band, and Blue Smoke Band. A silent auction, 50/50 drawing, and door prizes will take place during the early part of the evening. Soup’s On provides a free meal weekly, along with a Family Table Dinner the fourth Friday each month at Wander Inn. To date, more than 40,000 meals have been served to the community.

Meet drug-detecting dog at Pachyderm meeting
POLSON — Those attending the Friday, Feb. 28 meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club will hear stories of how dogs are used in detecting illegal drugs. The meeting will be held at the Polson Rural Fire Hall on Regatta Road beginning at 11:30 a.m. with brown bag lunches. The business meeting begins at noon and adjourns at 1 p.m. Featured speaker is Dennis Jones, retired Polson High School principal, who has worked narcotics and weapons canines for the past 12 years. He will bring his drug-detecting dog, a black lab named Jetta. All are welcome.
Play bingo for the After School Program
POLSON — The Polson After School Program plans a bingo night fundraiser for Feb. 28 from 5:30-8 p.m. or until the prizes run out, according to director Amanda Steele. It will be a family event with prizes for kids and parents alike. Concession stand food will be available.
