‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Quilters complete annual fundraiser

RONAN — Mission Valley Quilters Guild complete their fundraiser challenge for the Ronan Senior Center on this date. During this annual event, quilters display their projects at the Ronan Senior Center and the public votes on them by donations. The center is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so stop in, bring your spare change and vote on these wonderful projects. This event runs Nov. 8-Dec. 1.

Art, singing event supports food pantries, SKC scholarships

POLSON — The Totally Terrific and Truly Timely - Voice and Visual Spectacular will take place Nov. 18 at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. This event is co-sponsored by SAFE Harbor and the SKC Spirit of Many Colors Club as a night of optimism and hope, focused on promoting a strong sense of community for all people. During the evening, art stations will be set up and participants will get to take home their artwork. A vocal talent contest will provide entertainment. There will be audience prizes and karaoke will conclude the night. Tickets are $10 per person or $100 for a VIP table, which has seating for eight and includes a “swag bag” for the group. Big Arm invites community to Thanksgiving dinner

Indoor yard sale supports RHS Close Up group

RONAN — The Ronan High School Close Up group is trying to raise money to go to D.C. next spring. On Nov. 18 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. they are going to host a Yard Sale/ Flea Market at the RHS gym. Students are offering vendor booth space for $25. Students will sell Indian Tacos, baked goodies, and refreshments as well. Benefit concert supports Mission mural repairs

IGNATIUS — Come to the benefit concert for the St. Ignatius Mission murals presented by the St. Ignatius Mission Sunday Choir, the Children’s Choir, the Cronk Choir, Fred and Patience Matt, and Del Nicholson and Friends at 3 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Mission on Sunday, Nov. 19. Furniture auction supports Boys and Girls Club

RONAN — The Granleys have donated furnishings from the Total Home to the Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County. These furnishings will be auctioned on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 4-7 p.m. at the Total Home building in Ronan. Auction items include: dining sets, living room furniture, chairs, lamps, decor and much more. Drinks and appetizers will be served. Audubon program talks Mars

POLSON — ”Five Years of Exploring Mars with the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover" by Dr. Tim Olson will be Mission Mountain Audubon's evening program on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room. Everyone is welcome. 

The NASA Mars Science Laboratory rover Curiosity has been operating on the Martian surface since August 2012.The primary goal of the MSL mission is to assess whether Mars ever had an environment suitable for life. MSL Science Team member Tim Olson will provide an overview of the rover’s capabilities and the major findings from the mission so far.

The NASA Mars Science Laboratory rover Curiosity has been operating on the Martian surface since August 2012. The primary goal of the MSL mission is to assess whether Mars ever had an environment suitable for life. MSL Science Team member Tim Olson will provide an overview of the rover’s capabilities and the major findings from the mission so far. He will also share some of his experiences of what it is like to operate Curiosity’s science cameras and explore Mars from Montana as part of a large team of scientists and engineers.

Tim Olson has been a faculty member at Salish Kootenai College since 1995. He is a member of the NASA Mars Science Laboratory Science Team, a co-investigator for the Mastcam, MAHLI, and MARDI cameras on the Mars Science Laboratory rover, and a Payload Uplink Lead for Mars surface operations of the Mastcam cameras.

Ronan continues Community Thanksgiving Dinner tradition

RONAN — It started small eleven years ago. Over the years it has grown, bringing people together for a time of friendship, food, music and fun. The thirteenth annual Ronan Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be on Nov. 23 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Ronan Community Center. Each year the celebration draws several hundred residents coming to share conversation, homemade pie and the chance to recognize the good that has come into their lives. Festivities for the day include entertainment and a traditional turkey dinner. Volunteers are needed to help serve, cook, and clean up. Turkeys, pies, and rolls, are also needed.
