2012 Fall Mack Days begins soon
POLSON — The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes are sponsoring the 2012 Fall Mack Days on Flathead Lake. It will be held Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 21-Nov.11, and the last 10 days of the contest are all fishing contest days. Great prizes can be won and a fish fry will be held on Nov. 11 for all participants and their families at Blue Bay. ‘Mrs. Claus is Missing’ to be performed in Ronan
RONAN — The theatre season opens on Nov. 9-10 at the Ronan Performing Arts Center when the elementary students, grades kindergarten through second grade, present “Mrs. Claus is Missing.” Performances begin at 7 p.m. This is an enchanting musical all about the power of believing. Don’t miss Santa, the elves and others that are sure to delight audiences of all ages. All invited to celebrate library centennial
POLSON — North Lake County Public Library in Polson is celebrating its 100th birthday with a party for the public on Saturday, Nov. 10.
The event will take place in the library meeting room from 1-3 pm. There will be birthday cake, ice cream and entertainment.
Names will be drawn for a prize from those who have participated in the library’s calendar of activities in past months and placed their names in the jar at the circulation desk.
Entertainment will feature puppeteer Sherry Johns from Kalispell. Sherry has performed at several previous library events and is very popular with adults and children alike.
The birthday party completes North Lake County Public Library’s 100-year celebration, which began during the summer and included an old-fashioned ice cream social, an entry in Polson’s Fourth of July parade, and two book reading/signing events featuring bestselling author Jamie Ford, along with historic displays and a special exhibit.

Honor guard to perform veteran memorial services
ST. IGNATIUS — Mission Valley honor guard will be doing services on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the veterans’ memorial in St. Ignatius. Wool design contest open to all ages
RONAN — The Make It With Wool district one contest will be held Nov. 11 at the Ronan High School Library beginning at noon.
District 1 includes the counties of Flathead, Granite, Lake, Lincoln, Mineral, Missoula, Ravalli, Sanders, and Northern Powell.
The contest is open to pre-teens ages 12 and under, juniors ages 13-16, seniors ages 17-24, adults age 25 and older and sewing for others (any age). Ages should be as of Dec. 31, 2012.
Pre-teen, junior, senior, and adult contestants must select, construct and model their own garments. Garments made for other people must be modeled by the intended wearer.
The construction fabric or yarn must be 60-100 percent wool. The yarn may be mohair, cashmere, alpaca, camel, or llama.
The contest is open to quilts, afghans, wall hangings, table runners and 56-72-inch throws. An individual or group of any age may construct an item.

RONAN — A free agricultural forum put on by the Montana Land Reliance will be held at the Ronan Community Center Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 8 a.m. Speakers will address topics including future global economic opportunities; future local economic opportunities; GMOs; educational opportunities and future careers in agriculture; sustainable management of energy inputs; and farm land protection.

Gender violence prevention expert to speak
PABLO — Dr. Jackson Katz, who is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in gender violence prevention education in schools, sports culture and the military, as well as for his pioneering work in critical media literacy, will be speaking in Lake County and the Flathead Reservation on Tuesday, Nov. 13.
Thanks to a grant from Verizon, DOVES is bringing Dr. Katz for an invitation-only men’s leadership breakfast in the morning, followed by a public multi-media presentation, “More Than a Few Good Men: Strategies for Inspiring Men and Boys to be Allies in Gender Violence Prevention,” at the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theater on the Salish Kootenai College campus in Pablo at 11:30 a.m. A light lunch will be served in the theater lobby at 11 a.m.

Group to share holiday recipes using herbs
POLSON — “Thyme for Herbs Group” will meet Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. at the North Lake County Public Library meeting room, 2 First Avenue, E., (use the east side door). This will be an informal gathering instead of a lesson. Our theme is “Using Herbs in Holiday Foods.” We are asking people to bring samples of a food featuring herbs, to share with the group and printed copies of the recipe for about 20 people. If you can’t make multiple copies, email the recipe to Linda to print. We will sample and discuss using herbs liberally for nutrients and prevention of disease. Meeting date change for Flathead Joint Board of Control
ST. IGNATIUS — The monthly meeting of the Flathead Joint Board of Control will be Nov. 13, instead of Nov. 12, due to Veterans Day. The FJBC will meet at 11 a.m. at the St. Ignatius board office. The meeting is open to the public.
Valley schools to participate in band festival
RONAN — On Nov. 13, at 7 p.m., the Mission Valley Band Festival will take place at the Ronan Performing Arts Center. Students from Bigfork, St. Ignatius, Ronan, Arlee, and Thompson Falls will participate.
This year’s director is David Barr of Glacier High School.

Flathead Basin Commission to meet
KALISPELL — Members of the Flathead Basin Commission will hold a meeting on Nov. 14, 2012 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation office, 655 Timberwolf Parkway, Kalispell.
During the morning, the meeting will be devoted to administration updates, and a discussion of the FBC legislative agenda regarding Aquatic Invasive Species. In the afternoon there will be an overview of the priority projects currently being undertaken by the county. Discussions about the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem Education Consortium and the Stoltz Greenhouse Project in Columbia Falls will also take place.

Maori history, culture focus of lecture
PABLO — Salish Kootenai College President’s Guest Lecture Series welcomes Karl Rangikawhiti Leonard Friday, Nov. 16, at noon in the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theatre on the SKC campus in Pablo.
Leonard will present a history of the Maori people of New Zealand, commencing from the migration of the Maori from Rangiatea in the Tahiti region to Aotearoa, New Zealand, from pre-European contact through to post-contact today, showing examples of inter-generational exchange and the role Maori play in New Zealand society today.

Arlee students present 'The Secret Garden'
ARLEE — Join Mary Lennox, Colin Craven, Archibald Craven, the Bugs that Rock and a host of others in a musical wonderland this Saturday, Nov. 17, when the Missoula Children's Theatre and more than 50 local students present an original musical adaptation of "The Secret Garden" at 7 p.m. at the Arlee High School gym. Concert, dance to raise funds for child with cancer

Public invited to celebrate museum’s success
CHARLO — It’s official: the “Save the Museum” campaign was successful, and the deed to the Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana was signed over to the board of directors on Oct. 16. Board members wish to express their gratitude to the museum’s well-wishers and supporters with a day of thanks on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum will be open to the public at no cost and refreshments will be available. Come watch the board members “retire” the sign on the side of the building that showed the financial progress being made over the last two years as pledges and donations were received.
The museum’s winter hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday through Dec. 1. The museum will reopen the first Thursday in April 2013. Group tours are available upon request and can be scheduled by calling 644-3435.

POLSON — The Elks, at 512 Main St., will hold a taco soup feed and holiday bazaar on Sunday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but nonperishable food donations will be collected. All kinds of vendors will showcase their items in one convenient location. This is a fundraiser for local food banks and all proceeds will be split and donated.

Turkey trot returns to Polson
POLSON — Join the fifth annual Polson turkey trot on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22. This 5K fun run/walk will start and finish at Century 21 Big Sky Real Estate, on the corner of Highway 93 and Highway 35. The course travels down Highway 35 and around Mission Bay. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome. Race day registration opens at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m. The cost is $5. All proceeds benefit Polson Loaves and Fishes.
