‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Event proceeds to benefit ‘Christmas for Kids’

POLSON — Please come and join us for a free event for kids in Lake County on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. in the lower level of the Masonic Lodge in Polson. There will be a Christmas craft and bake sale including rum cakes, homemade pies, candy, and homemade breads. Proceeds benefit "Christmas for Kids.” There will be a live auction from 2-4 p.m. The auction will include a Tim McGraw autographed electric guitar complete with a certificate of authenticity.

Hot Springs artists hold annual fundraiser

HOT SPRINGS — The annual Hot Springs Artists Society annual fundraiser is approaching fast. It’s a great event and our only major fundraiser. So come and enjoy the silent auction, wine, cheese and chocolate gala on Nov. 9 from 6-9 p.m. at the Symes Event Hall. Our featured artist this year is award-winning photographer Jay Cross of Polson. Jay was kind enough to donate one of his beautiful photos for the auction. There will be several other works of original art, jewelry, gift certificates, prints and so much more to bid on. Feast on spaghetti for Veteran’s Day

Learn to use herbs for better health

POLSON — The next gathering of the “Thyme for Herbs Group” will be Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in the North Lake County Public Library meeting room, 2 First Ave. E. (use the east side door). 

Our topic will be "Prevention is the Best Insurance. " We are learning to use herbs, foods, and other traditional remedies to prevent and handle health issues. We are continually becoming more familiar with how to use the "Herbal 9-1-1" materials in our everyday lives.

Flathead Basin Commission to hold meeting

PABLO — Members of the Flathead Basin Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Tribal Council Chambers, 42487 Complex Blvd. in Pablo.

The morning session of the meeting will focus on FBC administration, including presentation of the Paul Williams Stewardship Award; an update from Pat Smith of the Northwest Power Planning and Conservation Council regarding the Columbia River Treaty review process; a status report from Rich Janssen, of CSKT, related to the bull trout co-management effort; and a presentation from Mike Durglo, of CSKT, regarding the recently released Climate Change Adaptation Plan produced by the Tribes.

The afternoon will kick off with FBC programmatic updates.  However, the majority of the afternoon will be devoted to aquatic invasive species.

Museum to present ‘Meet David Polson’

POLSON — On a trial basis, the Miracle of America Museum will be hosting an activity night on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The events are free to the public, although donations are accepted. Participants are welcome to bring cookies or other treats to share.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, the program is titled “Meet David Polson,” with a presentation that Gil has given twice at the “Stories and Stones” annual program at the Missoula cemetery. Learn why the Polson family is buried in Missoula and other interesting facts that Gil has recently learned by “digging up stones” — figuratively, of course. A short tour of some recently displayed historic photos of Polson and surrounding area with interesting facts are also in store.

Two local authors offer readings, book signings

POLSON — On Thursday, Nov. 14, from 4-7 p.m. the North Lake County Public library will present a special book signing for the public. Mary Barmeyer O’Brien and Carmine Mowbray are local authors of historical fiction. Each has written an account of true female pioneer experiences. “May” by Mary Barmeyer O’Brien, tells the rags to riches story of philanthropist and suffragette May Arkwright Hutton and takes place in the Idaho panhandle and Washington state. In “An Answering Flame” by C. Margo Mowbray, an intrepid woman called Donna trains and becomes a frontier horseback nurse in depression era Kentucky. At the event every hour on the hour, there will be a reading, corresponding question and answer sessions and book signings. Both books will be available for purchase; “May” for $16.95 and “An Answering Flame” for $15.95. Light refreshments will be served.

RONAN — Youth with a Mission has several fundraisers for an upcoming mission trip to Guinea Bissau, West Africa. There will be a barn dance held at the Ronan Community Center on Nov. 16 from 3-8 p.m. 

We are accepting baked goods donations. Please drop them off starting at 9 a.m. at the Ronan Community Center the day of the event. We are also accepting auction item donations. They can be dropped off anytime at Ronan Community Bank, Polson Community Bank, or Emosi and Silvana's house at 36794 Bouchard Road in Ronan.

Second annual hunter’s widow bazaar held at Elks

POLSON — The second annual hunter’s widow holiday bazaar will take place on Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Elks Lodge, 512 Main St., from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Get an early start on all of your holiday shopping needs. There will be all kinds of vendors showcasing their items in one convenient location. There will also be a potato bar and basket raffles.

Free admission and all proceeds for vendors’ table fees, the potato bar and basket raffles are going to Jordyn Kennedy’s family (recently diagnosed with cancer).

Learn more about social security
