‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. ‘Parents as Teachers’ invite parents

ARLEE — Staff from the “Parents as Teachers” program of the Lake County Public Health Department will be at the Hangin’ Art Gallery in Arlee on Wednesday Oct. 29 from 10-11:30 a.m. for a “Tots and Treats” playgroup. There will be activities, information and snacks. All area parents are welcome to the free, voluntary program. PAT provides twice monthly home visits to pregnant moms and those with children birth to age five with activities, screenings, and information. Parents find PAT to be very helpful, since babies don’t come with a manual. For more information, call the Lake County Public Health Department at (406) 883-7209.

Dress up for dance

POLSON — A Halloween dance will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Elks Club from 7-10 p.m. Costumes are optional but dressing up is fun and a prize for the best costume is planned. Treats for sharing are welcome. The Elks Club has a brand new floor and it’s a thing of beauty.

RONAN — On Halloween the fourth annual Trunk-or-Treat will take place at the LDS Church in Ronan, on the corner of Franklin and Fourth Ave. SE, from at 6-7 p.m. Set up and decorating your trunks will start at 5:30 p.m. You can include a game in your trunk for the youngsters to play when they come to trick-or-treat at your trunk. There will be free fun for everyone. It’s a clean, safe environment for all community members to enjoy. Free hot cocoa and apple cider for everyone. Ninepipes Museum closes for winter

NINEPIPES — The Museum and Gift Shop will be closing for the winter at the close of business on Saturday, Nov. 1. We hope you take advantage of our end-of-the-season sale going on now through Nov. 1 – there are some great discounts on some nice merchandise in the gift shop. We are holding a non-perishable food drive on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in exchange for a tour of the museum. IGNATIUS — Mission Valley United Methodist Church’s Pursuits program for November is for you ‘rockhounds.’ “Rocks and Fossils” will be presented on Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m. with a free supper of stone soup. Soil health workshop scheduled

MISSOULA — Producers and soil health experts will discuss different facets of soil health at a workshop sponsored by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Montana chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society on Monday, Nov. 3. The workshop will be in Missoula at the Montana Ruby’s Inn and Convention Center, 4825 North Reserve Street, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. The cost is $15 and includes lunch. Pasty lunch on Election Day

POLSON — On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Polson Presbyterian Church, across from Linderman School at 301 4th Ave. E., is holding a pasty lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The lunch includes a homemade pasty with gravy, salad, vegetable, cake and beverage and costs $6 for adults and $3 for children. All of the proceeds go to missions and outreach. Please vote, and then have a wonderful pasty lunch at the Polson Presbyterian Church.

Reporter to share rendezvous experience

RONAN — The Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will host a Humanities Montana Speakers Bureau program titled, “A Ride Back Through the Time to the Rendezvous Era” with Perri Knize on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the VFW Clubhouse, 521 Round Butte Road. In 2012, on assignment for National Geographic, Helena-based reporter Knize joined historians on horseback and covered a month-long Rendezvous. She will share her experience through images and video. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open and free to the public.

POLSON — The public is invited to a post-election panel with the newly elected Lake County delegation to the legislature on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the North County Public Library meeting room. This is an opportunity for citizens to communicate their concerns, prior to the January session of the Montana legislature, to the two newly elected Senators and three representatives from Lake County. Moderator of the panel is County Commissioner Bill Barron. Once senators and representatives are elected, they represent all of us regardless of Party. POLSON — First United Methodist Church of Polson will hold their annual fall bazaar and luncheon on Friday, Nov. 7. The ever-popular apple dumpling is again the menu highlight. Quilt Guild works on table toppers

POLSON — The Linderman School Library will be holding their annual Scholastic Book Fair in the Linderman Library on Nov. 11 from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Nov. 12 from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Nov. 13 from 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. The book fair is a fundraiser for the library to purchase more books plus it is a great opportunity for parents to do a little Christmas shopping and for kids to pick up some of the newest books on the market in children’s literature.

Legion dinner proceeds help Arlee students

ARLEE — The annual American Legion Veterans’ Day spaghetti dinner will be held at the Tribal Senior Center in Arlee on Nov. 11, from 5-9 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $8 per person or $5 per child 10 and under, and $18 for a family of four. Proceeds from the dinner will be used to defray the cost of sending a boy and girl from Arlee High School to Boys’ and Girls’ State each spring. Please come and help the American Legion in Arlee.
