POLSON — The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes are sponsoring the 2012 Fall Mack Days on Flathead Lake. It will be held Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 21-Nov.11, and the last 10 days of the contest are all fishing contest days. ARLEE — For the month of October the Arlee Community Development Corporation has moved its meeting to Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Arlee High School business lab. MOEISE — The Flathead Reservation Fish and Wildlife Board will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the National Bison Range Headquarters in Moiese. According to board chair Whisper Camel-Means, the agenda includes a report from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service regarding accomplishments and future plans, one proposed fisheries regulation change and fisheries updates. As always, the meeting is open to the public and all interested persons are welcome to attend. 

BIG ARM — A candidate forum will take place Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Big Arm Historic School. The Big Arm Association has invited the two candidates for Senate District 6, the two candidates for House District 11, and the two candidates for Lake County Commissioner to a forum in Big Arm.

The historic school, on Seventh Street, will be open at 6:30 p.m. and will start with an informal meet and greet over coffee.

The forum will begin at 7 p.m. with Paul Maurer as moderator. Candidates will each have two minutes to introduce themselves and then will be given time to answer questions generated from local residents. We anticipate the forum will last at least one hour. CHARLO — The Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen are holding an Octoberfest supper/membership drive on Friday, Oct. 19, at the Leon Community Club House on Leon Road at 6:30 p.m. The Back Country Horsemen will furnish the meat for the dinner. PABLO — Susan Devan Harness, M.A., will give a lecture titled, “American Indian Trans-racial Adoption, an Assault on Indigenous Cultures,” from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theatre on the Salish Kootenai College campus in Pablo.

Harness is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, as well as an American Indian trans-racial adoptee. Her master’s research in cultural anthropology at Colorado State University examined issues and outcomes of American Indian trans-racial adoption. Harness is currently a field director for the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research at Colorado State University.    

ARLEE — The Arlee Senior Center, Inc. will hold their annual yard sale/ flea market on Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. at the center located on the corner of Highway 93 S. and Wessinger St. We have hundreds of donated and very inexpensive books for sale, clothing, holiday items, baked goods, and several tables with handmade items. Since the center serves the seniors of Arlee with several different programs and also weekly meals, we are hoping that the community will stop by and help support our sale. YELLOW BAY — The Yellow Bay Community Club will hold its 28th annual rummage and bake sale fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clubhouse is located on Highway 35 at mile marker 18.

Sale items include three high-end sewing/embroidery machines, quilting and craft supplies, fabrics and patterns, electric range, furniture household décor, an entertainment center with cabinets and shelving, dinette set, picnic table, and lots more.

Homemade desserts and sweets will be available at the bake sale; coffee is free all day.

Table space is still open and membership in the club is not required to participate. The club is also seeking rummage-sellers or donations of quality items.

IEC business related to Johnson O'Malley, drumming and singing, reports from Mahalia Hendren and Al Plant, parent needs assessment survey, Title VII, American Indian elementary/secondary education report, American Indian cultural heritage activities, an early warning drop out prevention program from OPI (Arlee would be designated a pilot school) will be discussed. RONAN — Tana Seeley, project director of Mission Valley Aquatics, the nonprofit organization building the new aquatic center in Polson, will be the guest speaker at the Friday, Oct. 26 meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club.

NINEPIPE — A cribbage tournament to benefit long-time St. Ignatius coach and cancer patient Les Rice will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from noon-8 p.m. at the Ninepipes Lodge banquet room. Prizes will be $200 for first place; $150 for second; $100 for third; and $50 for fourth. The tournament will be double-elimination with a blind draw for partners, and rules will be according to “The Book of Hoyle.”

POLSON — A donation event to benefit Jade Marr, who has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, (a form of childhood cancer), is planned for Saturday, Oct. 27, from 4-8 p.m. at the Elks in Polson. A hearty stew dinner (gluten free) will be served for $8 per person, $25 per family (children 3-years and younger are free). The event includes a silent auction, a kids’ silent auction (12 years and younger) and a quilt raffle. Come help make something amazing happen and enjoy the evening with your family.

RONAN — The Lake County spay/neuter task force is sponsoring a low-cost spay/neuter clinic on Saturday, Oct. 27, and Sunday, Oct. 28, at Glacier View Christian School in Ronan. The clinic is for dog and cat owners that have low to moderate or fixed incomes.

RONAN — A garden work day/ make a difference day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at Ronan High School.
