Class for caregivers to begin in September
POLSON —Powerful Tools for Caregivers class is scheduled for Wednesdays, Sept. 5 to Oct. 17, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson. 2012 Fall Mack Days begins soon
POLSON — The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes are sponsoring the 2012 Fall Mack Days on Flathead Lake. It will be held Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 21-Nov.11, and the last 10 days of the contest are all fishing contest days. Fun planned for everyone at community barn dance
RONAN — The Boys and Girls Club is hosting a Community Barn Dance from 4-8 p.m. at the Ronan Community Center on Oct. 13. Garden work day planned
RONAN — A garden work day is planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Ronan High School. The school has an outdoor Peace Garden that is in disrepair, and needs some TLC or will be covered up and removed. Come the whole day, or for an hour. Free online genealogy research presentation offered
RONAN —On Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m., The Red Poppy is sponsoring an online genealogy research program. JoAnn Piazzola, a well-known Daughters of the American Revolution genealogist from Butte, is the presenter. Piazzola will focus on popular, free on-line resources. As always, the afternoon is free and open to the public, with a reception following the program.

Rehberg to visit Polson
POLSON — The Lake County GOP Headquarters invites you to join candidate Denny Rehberg’s “Liberate Main Street – Create Jobs” bus stop on Sunday, Oct. 14, at noon at the headquarters building located on the corner of Second Street and Highway 93 in Polson. The Liberate Main Street tour highlights the importance of supporting local businesses as a way of creating jobs and growing the economy. ‘Psychology of Politics’ class offered
POLSON — It has been said all politics is local. Let’s take that to mean “extremely local,” (meaning the individual), and examine how a person perceives, thinks, and develops the “meanings” that become a political vote.
Part one of a three-part series entitled “The Psychology of Thinking” will be taught by Gene Johnson Monday, Oct. 15, from 7-8:30 p.m. at North Lake County Library in Polson. District begins policy review process

Group to discuss herbs, wellness

Fish, wildlife board to meet
MOEISE — The Flathead Reservation Fish and Wildlife Board will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the National Bison Range Headquarters in Moiese. According to board chair Whisper Camel-Means, the agenda includes a report from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service regarding accomplishments and future plans, one proposed fisheries regulation change and fisheries updates. Big Arm Historic School site of candidate forum
BIG ARM — A candidate forum will take place Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Big Arm Historic School. The Big Arm Association has invited the two candidates for Senate District 6, the two candidates for House District 11, and the two candidates for Lake County Commissioner to a forum in Big Arm.
The historic school, on Seventh Street, will be open at 6:30 p.m. and will start with an informal meet and greet over coffee.
The forum will begin at 7 p.m. with Paul Maurer as moderator. Candidates will each have two minutes to introduce themselves and then will be given time to answer questions generated from local residents. We anticipate the forum will last at least one hour. Speaker to address Indian trans-racial adoption
PABLO — Susan Devan Harness, M.A., will give a lecture titled, “American Indian Trans-racial Adoption, an Assault on Indigenous Cultures,” from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Johnny Arlee/Victor Charlo Theatre on the Salish Kootenai College campus in Pablo.
Harness is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, as well as an American Indian trans-racial adoptee. Her master’s research in cultural anthropology at Colorado State University examined issues and outcomes of American Indian trans-racial adoption. Harness is currently a field director for the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research at Colorado State University.

Arlee seniors hold annual yard sale
ARLEE — The Arlee Senior Center, Inc. will hold their annual yard sale/ flea market on Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. at the center located on the corner of Highway 93 S. and Wessinger St. We have hundreds of donated and very inexpensive books for sale, clothing, holiday items, baked goods, and several tables with handmade items. Since the center serves the seniors of Arlee with several different programs and also weekly meals, we are hoping that the community will stop by and help support our sale. Yellow Bay Community Club holds rummage, bake sale
YELLOW BAY — The Yellow Bay Community Club will hold its 28th annual rummage and bake sale fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clubhouse is located on Highway 35 at mile marker 18.
Sale items include three high-end sewing/embroidery machines, quilting and craft supplies, fabrics and patterns, electric range, furniture household décor, an entertainment center with cabinets and shelving, dinette set, picnic table, and lots more.
Homemade desserts and sweets will be available at the bake sale; coffee is free all day.
Table space is still open and membership in the club is not required to participate. The club is also seeking rummage-sellers or donations of quality items.
