‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Experience ‘Lights under the Big Sky’

RONAN — On Saturday, Dec. 11, “Lights Under the Big Sky” will provide fun and entertainment for residents of the Mission Valley at the Ronan Fairgrounds from 5-9 p.m. There will be holiday lights displays; family activities and Santa.

Cancer support group changes schedule and location

PABLO — Cheerful Heart’s Cancer Support Group announces starting on Dec.11 and every second and fourth Wednesday of the month thereafter, they will move to the Church of the Nazarene, 42653 Old Highway 93, Pablo. (There will be no gathering on Nov. 27 or Dec. 25. In January the group will return to its regular schedule at the Pablo Church of the Nazarene.) Matthew Connolly is the pastor of the Church of the Nazarene and invites anyone affected by cancer to join the group. Cheerful Heart Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit, has provided non-medical services to cancer patients in Lake County since 2002. Learn how to make a ya-ya doll

ARLEE — The Arlee Community Development Corporation is offering a yaya doll crafting class for kids 12 and up on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. Participants can bring their own fabric scraps to put a personal touch on creating their yaya dolls in this hands-on workshop that will also explore cultural traditions and foster learning and sharing. Materials will be provided and a light supper will be served. This program is funded by the Arlee CDC and the O.P. and W.E. Edwards Foundation. Masumola Board to hold meeting

POLSON — The Masumola Board of Directors will host the December meeting, and you are welcome to join with them to prepare for the general meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 4:30 p.m. at the Masumola Clubhouse. Plan on appetizers, drinks, Christmas carols and decorating a Christmas tree, and the tables. We could use ideas for the tables, maybe greenery and pine cones?  Wine, beer, flavored water and appetizers will be brought. If anyone would like to contribute to the festivities that would be welcomed, but not necessary.

Book Donation Day held

POLSON — On Thursday, Dec. 19, The Friends of the Library are having a Book Donation Day. Our Friends of the Library have taken over management of our donation program and have set the third Thursday of each month as “Donation Day.” You may bring to the library up to two boxes of books or movies between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on that day. Please remember that we cannot accept books in poor condition. We also cannot accept encyclopedias, textbooks, dictionaries, atlases, Readers Digest compilation books, VHS, cassette tapes and outdated non-fiction titles (no older than 3 years for medical, legal, political and technology). You are always welcome to donate paperbacks, magazines, puzzles, and titles that were published in the past year directly to the library for our collection.

CHARLO — The Allentown Restaurant, 69286 US Highway 93, will hold a Grinch Fly-in event on Sunday, Dec. 22. The Grinch will arrive via a helicopter at noon. Other special guests in another chopper and they can’t wait to see all of you. (weather permitting or they will come by vehicle) Please bring two perishable food items to donate to the local food bank as your entry fee. There will be face painting, games, a food truck and other fun things starting at 10 a.m. We will be handing out free coats and books this year while supplies last.
