POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Thursday each month at KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah Room from noon to 1 p.m. Our guest speaker on Jan. 7 will be Morgan Hahn from Navigator Travel who will host a nine-day trip to Ireland in June 2016. Commissioner Barron to speak at Pachyderm meeting
POLSON — Bill Barron, who is starting his seventh year serving as Lake County Commissioner, will be the featured speaker at the Friday, Jan. 8, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club.
He will give a recap of the challenges and solutions Lake County government has dealt with during the past year. He also will outline some of the issues he foresees in the months ahead. For example: How to provide county services now that tax revenue has been significantly reduced.
Anyone interested in learning about our government and important issues are always welcome at Pachyderm meetings held the second and fourth Fridays of the month in the meeting room of the Polson Rural Fire Department on Regatta Road near the Polson fairgrounds. Social time is from 11:30 a.m.-noon and our meetings are from noon-1 p.m.

Fun with rubber duckies on tap
ST. IGNATIUS – Who doesn’t like rubber duckies? The January Parents as Teachers Community Connection at The Nest will be all about rubber duckies. Open to the public, this fun event will include a light lunch, rubber duckie races and storytime. Kids will be able to take a book home with them too. Come join us from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Nest, 410 St. Mary’s Drive. Call 406-546-0199, if you have any questions. Pregnant moms and families with children under the age of 5 are welcome to attend this free program. This is a good chance to meet other families with young children, and to learn more about the Parents as Teachers Home Visiting program.

Meeting to discuss transportation
POLSON — The Lake County Job Service Executive Committee general meeting for January will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 8:30 a.m. at First Interstate Bank in Polson. Lyn Hellegaard, executive director of Missoula Ravalli Transportation Management Association and Montana Transit Association, will discuss the findings of a transportation study that identifies local needs, transit service provider coordination and barriers, and a new voucher program.
In her 16 years in transportation, she’s helped develop tribal transportation, assisted regional providers to obtain financial and technical assistance, worked on veteran transportation issues and collaborated to pass legislation favorable to Montana.

Indian Education Committee meets Tuesday, Jan. 19
POLSON — The January meeting of the JO’M Indian Education Committee (IEC) will be held Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Cherry Valley School. We will eat at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, and we will meet at 6 p.m. in the library. Childcare will be provided.
Topics include revision of by-laws, graduation incentives, needs assessment and more.
The IEC meeting is usually on the third Monday of the month, but because there isn’t school on those days in January and February this year, the IEC meeting is scheduled for the evening of the following school day. The February meeting will be held Tuesday Feb. 16 at Linderman Elementary. Eating/meeting rooms will be announced.
