PABLO — Churches of Mission Valley are presenting “A Night of Celebrating the New: A New Year, A New Beginning, A New Generation” on Sunday, Jan. 1, at 7 p.m. at Two Eagle River School. Music and worship will be lead by Christian Dawson from Seattle, championing the next generation of believers.

ST. IGNATIUS — Preston Miller and Merle Parise will show and run antique toy trains in the old Ravalli Depot at Four Winds Trading Post, three miles north of St. Ignatius on Highway 93 on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, from noon to 4 p.m. The Ravalli Depot, built in 1885 and moved here in 1973, houses a large collection of Railroadiana Toy Trains and Native American collectibles.  Admission is free. Bring the kids and you will return every year.

POLSON — The first Polson Chamber meeting of 2017 will feature Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes’ Communications Director Robert McDonald. The luncheon meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the KwaTaqNuk Resort from noon-1 p.m. A graduate of Western Montana University with a degree in journalism, McDonald worked as a reporter for several newspapers, including the Spokesman Review, before becoming CSKT’s Communications Director in 2006. He also serves as an Associate Justice to the Tribal Appellate Court. Cost of the luncheon is $11. Reservations for the luncheon are not required. POLSON — Please join the Kiwanis Club on Thursday, Jan. 5, at the KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah Room from noon-1 p.m., when our guest speaker will be Caroline McDonald who is the coordinator for the Hope Project. Dr. LeeAnna Muzquiz and Dr. Jamie Straub will join her. The program structures around helping moms to receive non-judgmental prenatal care and connect them with services unique to their situation such as transportation to medical appointments, addiction counseling and help developing lifelong goals. The Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Thursday each month. Everyone is welcome.

POLSON — The AARP Tax-Aide Program provides free help in preparing and electronically filing federal and state income tax returns for low to moderate-income taxpayers. POLSON — The Lake County Chapter of ACT for America will meet and set its 2017 agenda on Monday, Jan. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the KwaTaqNuk. A brief video from founder Brigitte Gabriel will be shown pointing out the current challenges to strengthen our national security and to keep our state and country safe from the threat of radical Islam. The public is invited and input from all interested citizens is encouraged.

POLSON — Lake County Commissioners will hold a public meeting about Public Law 280 at 10 a.m. on Jan. 11 in room 211 of the Lake County Court house. The public will hear both sides of the financial issues surrounding the federal law that defines criminal jurisdiction of Tribal members within the reservation boundaries, and a resolution of intent to withdraw from the agreement.
