Library closes early New Year’s Eve
RONAN — Ronan Library will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, and be closed on Friday, Jan. 1. Regular hours resume on Jan. 2, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Bookmark contest held at library through Jan. 15
RONAN — Ronan Library will host a bookmark contest for children and teenagers from Dec. 14-Jan. 15. Prizes will be awarded the winners based on originality, creativity and neatness. Pick up entry forms at the library. Please call 406-676-3682 for more information.
Hall of Famer Haynes honored
HOT SPRINGS — Longtime rodeo star and 2011 Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame living inductee Fay Haynes of Ronan is turning 90 years old. A special open house in her honor will be held at the Senior Citizens Center on Main Street in Hot Springs on Friday, Jan. 1, at 2 p.m. The Hot Springs museum will be open for people to view the display they have set up honoring Fay and her life accomplishments. The museum would appreciate any paraphernalia regarding Fay’s accomplishments to add to the current display.
New Year’s Mass held in St. Ignatius only
ST. IGNATIUS — The St. Ignatius Mission will hold Mass on Jan. 1, 2016, New Year’s Day, at 10 a.m. There will be no Mass at the Arlee or Jocko Catholic Churches on New Year’s Day.

Double-header supports scholarship fund
POLSON — The annual “Shooting for Buck” night is Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, in conjunction with the Polson vs. Frenchtown basketball double header at Linderman gymnasium. Please wear red and bring a few extra dollars to give to the Buck Young Scholarship Fund, which helps Polson high school athletes pursue their college dreams. The basketball games begin at 4 p.m.

Wear old uniforms to watch Ronan game
RONAN — Ronan is hosting “throwback old school night” in the Ronan High School gym on Monday, Jan. 4.
The Ronan vs. Loyola games include: freshmen at 4 p.m., junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m. Tickets are less expensive if you wear your old high school uniforms or letter jackets. Come cheer on the Chiefs on this special occasion, the second year for this Ronan High School athletics event.

Quilters challenged to mentor child
RONAN — On Tuesday, Jan. 5, the Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold its regular meeting at the Terrace Lake Community Church at 6:30 p.m. Please bring your “Drunkard’s Path Challenge” blocks and any show and tell you might have.
Our Quilter’s Challenge this year is to find a child to mentor on how to quilt and to do a quilt for the quilt show in August. Sometime in January we will have a “ribbon work” meeting to get started on the Quilt Show Ribbons for 2016.
Refreshments for January are Kay Wall, Jessie Merwin, Debbie Thingelstad and Dana Merwin.

Learn about Ireland trip
POLSON — The Polson Kiwanis Club meets the first and third Thursday each month at KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah Room from noon to 1 p.m. Our guest speaker on Jan. 7 will be Morgan Hahn from Navigator Travel who will host a nine-day trip to Ireland in June 2016. If the snow has you blue, come and hear Morgan talk about this educational trip to Ireland; land of lakes, hills of green, the ruins of towers, keeps, castles and abbeys, Cliffs of Moher and much, much more.

Commissioner Barron to speak at Pachyderm meeting
POLSON — Bill Barron, who is starting his seventh year serving as Lake County Commissioner, will be the featured speaker at the Friday, Jan. 8, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club.
He will give a recap of the challenges and solutions Lake County government has dealt with during the past year. He also will outline some of the issues he foresees in the months ahead. For example: How to provide county services now that tax revenue has been significantly reduced.
Anyone interested in learning about our government and important issues are always welcome at Pachyderm meetings held the second and fourth Fridays of the month in the meeting room of the Polson Rural Fire Department on Regatta Road near the Polson fairgrounds. Social time is from 11:30 a.m.-noon and our meetings are from noon-1 p.m.
