‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Join the Montana Food Bank Network’s community conversation on hunger in Montana and Lake County on Wednesday, July 31, from noon-1:30 p.m. at the Ronan Indian Senior Center, 35806 Terrace Lake Rd. ‘A Quilter’s Garden’ theme used to create quilt displays

RONAN — The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold their annual quilt show Aug. 1-3 at the K. William Harvey Elementary School gymnasium. Admission is free; doors open at 10 a.m. 

This year’s theme is “A Quilter’s Garden.” Categories are: wall hanging art; challenge fabric; seasonal; table toppers; hand quilted; paper pieced; baby; lap/small; appliqué; miscellaneous; theme; vintage; wool; bed quilts; and guild sampler. Voting is on Thursday and Friday, with ribbons placed on Friday night. We will raffle off a fat-quarter basket and a quilt. 

Proceeds are used to buy supplies to make TLC quilts, which are donated to people in the valley who are in need. Gift items are also available in our “Country Store.” Members and non-members alike will display their beautiful hand-made items so come and enjoy. Band plays family-friendly music

RONAN — The Lake County Fair will hold a concert with the Western Union Band (featuring members of the Big Sky Mudflaps) from 5-7 p.m. This is a family-friendly event and free of charge. In addition, a market livestock auction will take place at 7 p.m.

Fair features full music agenda through Aug. 3

RONAN — Come one, come all, to the Lake County Fair. The fair will feature free music for three evenings: music by the Little Big Band on Wednesday evening, Thursday will feature bingo from 1-5 p.m. and music by Western Union Band at 5:30 p.m. and on Friday bingo is from 1-5 p.m. followed by the Lake County Fair Talent Show. Community members are encouraged to participate and strut their stuff. Saturday is full of fun with the 4-H and open Dog Agility and Rally, with music by John Dunnigan from 4-7:30 p.m.

Fair talent show sign ups held

RONAN — The Lake County Fair open talent show will be held Friday, Aug. 2, starting at 5 p.m. Sign up at the fair office. The sign-up closes at the end of business on Thursday. There will be entries for 18 and under and 19 and over, first, second, and third prizes for each class. Come and support everyone as a spectator if not entered. Plenty happening at Lake County Fair through Aug. 4

RONAN — The Lake County Fair begins Monday, July 29 and ends Sunday, Aug. 4. Fairgrounds are off Highway 93, north end Ronan. There will be 4-H and open class fair exhibits, food booths and kid’s games and activities all week.

‘Pioneer Days’ begins in Ronan

RONAN — Pioneer Days celebration begins in Ronan on Aug. 2. Pioneer Days will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday Aug. 2-4. Events get underway Friday, Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. with a Bulls and Broncs Rodeo. A street dance will follow at 9:30 p.m. outside the Pheasant and Second Chance Saloon on Main Street, featuring the country music of “The Mark Duboise Band.”

Three full days of activities await Ronan class of 1963

RONAN — The Ronan High School class of 1963 is holding their 50th class reunion Aug. 2, 3, and 4. We will meet in Polson Friday, buy tickets for $15 each and at 1 p.m. cruise the lake on the boat out of KwaTaqNuk and after gather under the pavilion at Ronan City Park for a bring-your-own basket picnic at 5 p.m.  Saturday we will meet at the VFW for a 9 a.m. breakfast, then do a walking tour of the town led by Ray Read.  At 3 p.m. we’ll gather at Cheff’s Guest Ranch for a get-together and dinner. The cost is $15 each and they need a head count so notify me right away. Sunday, at noon, we’ll ride on a hay wagon in the parade behind Jim Smith. Please wear a black or orange shirt. Ronan Airport to host Young Eagles flights

RONAN — In conjunction with Ronan Pioneer Days and the Fair, the Lake County Chapter #1122 of the Experimental Aircraft Association will host Young Eagles Flights at Ronan Airport open house on Saturday morning, Aug. 3, starting at 9 a.m. All children ages 8-17, with their parents’ approval, can get a ride in an airplane free of charge.

VFW kicks off with pancakes for Pioneer Days

RONAN — A pancake breakfast at the Ronan VFW kicks things off Saturday at 7 a.m. on the second day of Pioneer Days. The Mission Mountain Classic Run begins at 8 a.m. At 10 a.m. the kids' parade takes place and at noon the “Kiddies’ Rodeo” begins, including sheep riding, stick-horse racing, sheep dressing, calf cash race, chicken scramble and a pig scramble. An evening rodeo and Ring of Fire begins at 7:30 p.m. A street dance at KD’s Valley Club is at 9 p.m. followed by another street dance featuring “Cabin Fever” outside the Pheasant and Second Chance on Main Street at 9:30 p.m.
