‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Pancake feed benefits Ronan fire

RONAN — On Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, the Ronan Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual pancake feed at the Ronan Community Center. A pancake breakfast hot off the griddle will be served from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. both days. The meal includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, hash browns, sausage and gravy over biscuits, waffles, coffee and orange juice.

Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per family. Additional donations are welcome. Tickets will be available at the door, or you can purchase individual or a group of tickets from any Ronan firefighter or by calling (406) 676-4235.

VFW, Legion hold fundraiser to support ‘Walking for the Fallen’

RONAN — The Ronan VFW Post 5652 and the Ronan American Legion will host a fundraising potluck Saturday, April 27, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Ronan VFW located at 35981 Round Butte Road. The post will provide hot dogs, bratwurst and hamburgers and ask people to bring side dishes. All proceeds and donations from this fundraising event will support “Walking for the Fallen” and Chuck Lewis. Lewis is currently walking across America to help raise funds for programs that help wounded and disabled veterans. Lewis will make a stop in Ronan for the event and will talk about the experience so far.

Lewis, a Ronan resident, left Everett, Wash. March 31 and as of Monday had walked all the way to Libby, Mont. He plans to end the walk at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. in late September.

The public is invited to come and support this worthwhile cause and say hello to Lewis before he gets back on the road Sunday morning.

Library to auction chairs, benches, stools

RONAN — The Friends of the Ronan City Library are hosting their second Chair Auction fundraiser. The event will be held at the Mission Mountain Golf Course Restaurant on Friday, May 3. There will be a live auction of decorated chairs, benches and stools, as well as a silent auction. Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. Appetizers will be served at 6 p.m. and the auction starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and can be picked up from Michelle at the Ronan City Library. Space is limited, so please purchase tickets now. It is a fun event and a great way to support your library.

RONAN — On Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Ronan Indian Senior Center, (across the street from Dairy Queen), a fry bread and Indian taco feed will take place. Join fifth annual community Earth Day celebration

PABLO — Walkers, bikers, runners and rollers are invited to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., along Highway 93/pedestrian path in Ronan, Pablo and Polson. There will be checkpoints along the way to get your passports and stamps. Receive four stamps on your passport and you get a delicious “Made in Montana” lunch. A bike safety course, bike maintenance and lunch all culminate at the Joe McDonald Activity Center on SKC campus.

Checkpoint stations will provide healthy information and a variety of giveaways. Parking available at Baptiste Road, SKC Event Center or the Transfer Station on Minesinger Road. Willard’s hosts art show

RONAN — The fifth annual “Starving Artists” show will be held at Willard’s Bar on Saturday, May 4, from noon to midnight. The artists’ reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Artist’s work will be on display and a silent auction will be held with all proceeds going to Ronan Volunteer Fire Department. Bazaar includes food, raffle, prizes, more

RONAN — The Sacred Heart Parish annual bazaar is on May 5 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the church social hall. There will Indian tacos, pies, beverages, hot dogs and lots of fun, including a raffle featuring a beautiful handmade quilt, cash prizes, 25 pounds of beef and more.  Other events include door prizes, white elephant, crafts, kids’ games, cakewalk and more. Please come and help us make this a success; it is the only fundraiser Sacred Heart Parish holds.

Quilters schedule multiple May activities

RONAN — The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold their next meeting on May 7 at the Terrace Lake Community Church on Terrace Lake Road. This meeting is our annual brown bag auction, so bring a UFO or other quilt related item, sealed up in a brown bag with a little “ditty” on it giving us a clue, and be prepared to go home with lots of great things. Scott Savage will be the auctioneer. May is also election of new officers month. The refreshment committee is Donna C., Susie C., Robyn S. and Debbie F. 

On May 10 at 7 p.m. there will be a “Quilt in a Day” trunk show at 7 p.m. It is open to the public. We need cookies and punch for this. On May 11 the “Quilt in a Day” class will be held beginning at 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. You may bring your sewing machines and get them set up after the trunk show the night before. Our class project is “Storm at Sea.” Be sure to have your pieces all precut before the class. This class is a potluck. Call Kay if you have questions.

Please be working on your entries, your Country Store items and your two ribbon background blocks for the Quilt Show. If you need help cutting for the “Quilt in a Day” class, come to the church at 6 p.m. on May 7. Bring your “show and tell” and plan to have a fun evening. Everyone is welcome.

Author Watry starts off library’s ‘Montana Authors’ Nights’

Please join us in welcoming our first author of the season, Elizabeth Watry, “Women in Wonderland: Lives, Legends, and Legacies of Yellowstone National Park.” This event is open to the public.
