‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Library serves up vanilla ice cream, reading

POLSON — Join the Parents as Teacher Home Visitors as we partner with Youth Services Librarian Kendra during the North Lake County Public Library’s Mother Goose Story Hour at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 23. The theme will be ice cream, in observance of “Vanilla Ice Cream Day.” We’ll have activities, a craft project, and Kendra will read us fun books on the topic. We will also have some coupons for free child’s cones, compliments of The Cove. Pregnant moms and families with children under the age of 5 are welcome to attend the Parents as Teachers Community Connections. This is a good chance to meet other families with young children, and to learn more about the Parents as Teachers Home Visiting program. ‘Foxfire’ comedy, drama plays at theatre on the lake

POLSON — The second production by the Port Polson Players is “Foxfire,” a Hallmark Hall of Fame classic. Annie Nations and her husband Hector loved their life together in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but when Hector dies, Annie has to decide if she can handle the wilderness on her own. When son Dillard, a rising country music singing star returns, he must decide the fate of the farm. Montana Governor’s Awards for the Arts recipients and Players’ producers Neal and Karen Lewing are featured. All summer theatre shows are presented at Polson’s beautiful theatre on the lake on the Polson golf course (Highway 93, Boettcher Park. This tender, witty and wise comedy-drama plays from July 26-Aug 12. Reservations can be made by calling the theatre box office at 406-883-9212 or visiting portpolsonplayers.com. Tickets are $19 for adults, $18 for senior citizens and students.

MSU alumni invited to dinner cruise, golf

POLSON — On July 27, area friends, MSU Alumni, families and Bobcat Boosters are invited to participate in a Flathead Lake dinner cruise. This event is designed specifically for MSU alums, families and friends whether or not you participate in the golf scramble. This is a great opportunity to socialize with other Bobcats, while enjoying a scenic voyage on Flathead Lake. The cruise will be hosted by MSU Head Football Coach Jeff Choate. Cruise on board the “Shadow,” which departs from the Kwataqnuk Resort at 6 p.m. and returns at 9 p.m. A buffet dinner will be served and there will be a cash bar. Tickets are $55 per person. The golf scramble will be hosted at the Polson Bay Golf Club on July 28. The format will be similar to last year. The scramble begins with a shotgun start at 10 a.m., followed by a social hour and a barbecue. Entry fee is $500 per team. Proceeds benefit the MSU Bobcat Athletic Scholarship Fund. New art exhibit begins at Sandpiper Gallery

POLSON — The Sandpiper Art and Gift Gallery, 306 Main Street, begins their new exhibit, “Where does the Story Begin?” The show runs from July 30-Aug. 31 and features member artists Carole Carberry (watercolor), Maryann Eikens (sculpture/watercolor), Gitti Miller (basket weaving) Jan Brooks (wearable art), Jan Lindgren (watercolor), Julie Christopher (everything and anything), and guest artist John Ashley (photography). LAKE COUNTY — The Flathead Reservation and Lake County Boys and Girls Club will operate a summer program at both their Polson and Ronan sites Monday-Friday (not July 4) from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. from June 11-Aug. 17. The cost is $25 per month and must be paid up front in addition to membership fee. Space is limited. Share the Spirit director to speak

POLSON - The Polson Kiwanis Club hold lunch meetings the first and third Thursday of each month downstairs in the KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah room, from noon-1 p.m. Toni Young, Share the Spirit’s director, will speak about the local organization’s efforts since 1998 to make sure Lake County children have the best Christmas possible. Share the Spirit has been in partnership with the United States Marines and Toys for Tots for the past 15 years, and also with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, which raises money for a shopping excursion at Wal-Mart. Everyone is welcome to attend.
