‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Cruising takes place by the Bay

POLSON — Cruising by the Bay Events begin Friday, Aug. 10 and continue through Saturday, Aug. 11. Friday registration goes from noon to 5 p.m. at Riverside Park (Hwy. 93). Watch for sign and parking attendants. Events include a Poker Run from noon-5 p.m., the “cruise” starts at 5 p.m. at Riverside Park, and the parade starts at 6 p.m. On Saturday registration goes from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. - watch for signs. Events for the day include a Poker Walk from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and a Kids’ Carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the corner of Main Street and Fifth Avenue. The award ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. in front of the information booth with the “Parade of Winners.” The Bop-A-Dips will provide a free concert Saturday evening from 7-10 p.m. at Riverside Park. Courthouse lawn home to Art Festival

POLSON — The 41st Annual Sandpiper Lake County Art Festival takes place on the Polson Courthouse lawn Saturday, August 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in conjunction with “Cruisin’ By the Bay” Vintage Car Show. There will be fine art originals in all media, jewelry, handmade furniture, birdhouses, hand-sewn items, stained glass, rose mauling, pottery, candles and sculpture, along with many other interesting and unique items. In addition to the many returning artists, there will be new artists displaying in this popular juried event. There will be varied musical entertainment and food concessions throughout the day. PEO crab crack held at Glacier Brewery

POLSON — Does Dungeness crab, shrimp, jojo potatoes, coleslaw, lemonade and dessert sound good? If so, tickets are on sale now for the 6th annual PEO Chapter BY sponsored crab crack scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17, at the Glacier Brewery in Polson. Tickets are $25 per person. Beer will be sold separately. 

The crab crack raises money to help women finance their education through scholarships and low interest loans.

Attendees are asked to bring their own crab cracking tools. The evening features live entertainment by Johnny D and Margery.  

The public is invited to purchase tickets at Glacier Brewing in Polson or by calling 883-1676. A limited number of tickets are available, and any remaining tickets will be sold at the door. P.E.O. is a philanthropic educational organization that provides educational opportunities for women in the form of scholarships, grants, awards and loans.

POLSON — The fourth annual “Smokin’ On The Water” barbecue cook-off, sponsored by the Polson Chamber of Commerce ambassadors, takes place Saturday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. Trophies awarded in all categories. Join us in a barbecue cook-off of beef, chicken, pork, or sauces and an open category, “Chef’s Choice,” anything that is edible and grilled. Mission Valley Aquatics to offer Lifeguard training course

POLSON — Mission Valley Aquatics is hosting a Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course August 20-24 in Polson. 

If you’re 15 or older and looking for a great part-time job or challenging career that’s in demand, this Red Cross life guarding program is the place to start. Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn patron rescue and surveillance skills, first aid and CPR/AED. Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old and pass certain swimming requirements. The total course is 24-29 hours spread over four full days and a short day on Friday. Applicants earn a two-year life guarding/first aid/CPR/AED certification.
