‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. POLSON — P.E.O. Mission Mountain Reciprocity Group invites all P.E.O. members to its annual brown bag lunch. The picnic will be held Thursday, July 21, at 11:30 a.m. at Boettcher Park. Use the “Old Nine” Polson Golf Course entrance to get to the covered picnic table area at the park. This event welcomes all P.E.O. members who may be visiting the area, as well as members from local Chapters AI, BS, BY and CA. Attendees are encouraged to bring guests along with their lunches and drinks. Dessert will be provided. P.E.O. is an international philanthropic education organization whose main mission is promoting educational opportunities for women.

Learn to grill vegetables

POLSON — Come learn and earn $20 worth of Fresh SNAP Double Dollars to be spent on locally grown produce at the Polson Farmer’s Market. All are welcome, including children, but only SNAP recipients will receive market credit. Learn techniques on grilling vegetables and make a fresh salad out of the SKC garden from 2-4 p.m. at the campus greenhouse. The extension team at 58138 Highway 93, Pablo, will teach the class. POLSON — Dr. Steven Irwin is retiring Friday, July 29, after 35 years of service in Polson. Join MSU alumni for dinner cruise, golf

POLSON — On July 29, area friends, MSU Alumni, families and Bobcat Boosters are invited to participate in a Flathead Lake dinner cruise. This event is designed specifically for MSU alums, families and friends whether or not you participate in the golf scramble. MSU President Waded Cruzado will host the cruise, which departs on board the “Shadow” from the KwaTaqNuk Resort at 6 p.m. and returns at 9 p.m. A buffet dinner will be served on the boat, as well as a cash bar. Tickets are $45 per person or $100 for a family with children under 12. The golf scramble is hosted at the Polson Bay Golf Club on July 30. The format will be similar to last year’s event. The scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m., followed by a social hour and barbecue. Entry fee is $500 per team. All proceeds benefit the MSU Bobcat Athletic Scholarship Fund. Horsemen present riding in southwest slideshow

POLSON — Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen’s monthly meeting is on Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ronan VFW on Round Butte Road. Kent and Charlene Krone, who spend their winters in the southwest and publish their experiences in horseman magazines, will be the presenters. Their slideshow about riding in parts of Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana will be about 45 minutes long. The slideshow starts in the first territorial capitol of Arizona and ends in the second territorial capital of Montana. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. You won’t want to miss this presentation folks.
